Friday was always game day at school. To be honest, I thought it was completely stupid and just gave the football players a better reason to be assholes during the season, but for the past year I've dragged Pete to the games. He eventually caught on and realized I wasn't showing up to watch the games, no, I was here for someone.
"Who is it Ryan?" He bugged relentlessly. I shrugged and he sighed.
"Give me a clue. Are they a boy or a girl?"
"Guess." I replied with a smirk. He lightly hit my arm and I laughed.
"Whatever. I'm going to get some food. Want anything?" I shook my head and he walked away, muttering about how he was going to get me something anyway.
I waited until he was far enough away before I ran over to talk to the person I was here for.
Dallon Weekes.
Luckily Pete left during halftime, so I could sneak over and talk to Dallon before he came back.
I got over to the other side of the field and tapped Dallon on the shoulder. He turned around an hugged me with a smile.
"Ry! You made it!" He picked me up a little and I laughed.
"Yeah, I made Pete come with me. There's actually something I need to talk to you abo-."
"Babe you're doing amazing!" Brendon interrupted me. Of course, you can't find the star quarterback without his arrogant boyfriend. He walked by me and kissed Dallon on the cheek. "I'm so proud of you!"
"Thanks Bren. Ry, what did you need to tell me?" He asked. I held back on everything I wanted to do and say to him in that moment and replaced it with a smile.
"Just wanted to say good luck. I actually need to get back to Pete. Bye guys." I turned around and resisted the urge to turn back around and tell him.
I got back and Pete smirked.
"You have a thing for Dallon, don't you?" I nodded and he continued. "I should have seen this coming! You two have been best friends since kindergarten! It's obvious one of you would have fallen for the other!"
"Yeah, I guess." I shrugged. "Can we go now? I'm not feeling too well."
Pete gave me a confused look, but then looked over to Brendon and Dallon and nodded. "Sure bud. You want to stay over tonight? Mikey's coming over and bringing some movies. I'm sure he'd be okay with you staying with us."
"I don't want to be a problem."
"You're not a problem Ryan, you're my best friend. Get your ass in the car and lets go." I did as he said and thanked whatever power there was that had blessed me with Pete.
It became a routine for us to leave early during Friday's games. I never got the courage to tell Dallon how I felt with Brendon there, so I moped around Pete's house for the rest of the weekend while Mikey told me not to worry about it.
