                                                                    A Racism Project

As Shania walked through the yard she noticed something strange, the yard was divided into groups of black and white. shania glanced over to a of girls playing double-dutch. Shania ran over to them and asked if she could join their game. The girl that had been turning the rope turned slightly and looked Shania up and down and then said "NO" in a disgusted voice. Shania was shocked and asked why she could not join their game. The girl replied harshly by saying "Because your black!".

Shania was shocked she had never encountered this type of thing. She could feel the tears rolling down her cheek. She ran to the darkest corner of the yard and started to cry. She couldn't believe what the girl had said to her. It felt as if she had been stabbed in the heart. Shania began to sob gently again.

A few minutes past when a girl no older than Shania knelt down beside her and wiped Shania's tears away. While doing that she gently said that it was a rookie mistake that sooner or later Shania would learn to stick with her own kind.

During the following days, Shania and the girl that had helped her through a rough patch and they had become good friends. But the memory of that day still haunted her. Shania came up with a brilliant idea to present a project to her school about racismso people could understand more about racism. Kayla helped Shania with the project.

Later that week the whole school gathered together in the hall while Shania and Kayla explained the affects racism can have on people and how we are all the same even though we have different skin tones. The project seemed to have helped a lot of people understand what racism is.

The following day in the yard there was a big difference. Different groups were mixing together. Most importantly black and white groups were mixing together, even the girl that was mean to Shania invited Kayla and Shania to join her game.

Shania accepted because the girl had said that she was "sorry" and understood more about racism.

                                                                  Everybody was united at last.

                                                          SAY NO TO RACISM!!!!!
