Dear Diary, Octember 30th.
I believe we haven't met. My name is Rufus, and I am the proud cat of Todd McNabb. I mean, I didn't start off as his cat, but damn am I lucky to have a human slave like him. I've lucked out, if I say so myself. This is only my second life! My first was even more boring than those lame talk shows humans watch. It was also pretty crowded, because my first human slave Edna collected cats like some kind of jewelry or something. I'm happy that life ended after eight years. Because I could count multiple reasons why this life is greater. Todd is great! He gives me lots of catnip, and more wet food than I could ever dream of! Which is a lot. I want this life to last forever... I don't even wanna THINK of my other seven lives! Now excuse me, but Todd promised me a bucket full of catnip that I must get to. Until next time, diary.
-Rufus McNabb"Rufus! Come on over here!"
Todd yelled from the other side of the house. A young black cat bounded toward him as fast as he could. "IS MY CATNIP HERE??" He asked excitedly. Todd shook his head and bent down to pet the tom. "It's coming soon, Rufus. But for now, I have one question for you." Rufus looked at him. "What is it?""Why is there a man outside?? Did you invite someone over?" Todd asked. Rufus shook his head. Todd looked out the window. "I'm a little concerned about that guy.." He mumbled. "Kitty, get under the sofa. I'm gonna talk to him." Rufus scampered underneath Todd's giant grey couch. "Be careful," Rufus whispered. Todd smiled.
Todd opened the door and looked at the man. "Hello sir," the man said. "My name is Steve Cash, and I'd like to ask you a few questions." Todd raised an eyebrow. "About what, exactly?" He asked. "About your cat, Rufus. You said something about trading...?" Todd rolled his eyes. "Well I don't see a rag doll with you," he snorted. Rufus slowly backed away, sinking into the back of the sofa. What are they talking about? He thought.
"Well, I say what you are doing is very wrong, and that you should never trade cats like items," Steve said. "Well if you don't like it, LEAVE." Todd snorted. Steve shook his head. "Can I see Rufus first?" He asked. "You can if you never bother me again," Todd huffed. He let Steve into his house and shot Rufus an annoyed look. "Rufus. Get your big butt out from there," he said.
Rufus slowly slid out from under the sofa. "Todd, who is this..?" Rufus asked. "I'm Steve. Steve Cash," he said. Todd's eyes widened. "You can understand cats too?" He gasped. Steve laughed. "Of course! I love cats, and I've always wanted one of my own!" Todd snorted. "Well get a rag doll," he said. "Why do you want a rag doll, anyway?" Steve asked. "None of your business," Todd grumbled. "But remember, Steve. Not just any kind of rag doll. I need Matilda, the most beautiful rag doll cat to have ever lived!" Steve rolled his eyes. "That cat would cost a fortune!" "Exactly.." Rufus looked at Todd. "Are you.. Trading me?" He meowed. Todd bent down to pet the top of Rufus's head. "If I trade you for Matilda, I'll get lots of money. And then I'll be rich! WE'LL be rich! Once I get all that money, I can buy you back and we can be millionaires together!"
Rufus's eyes widened. "That's genius! Okay, I'm ready to be traded whenever you're ready to trade your product!" "No, guys. Don't do this," Steve mumbled. "You can't tell us what to do, now GET OUT OF MY HOUSE," Todd said. Steve shot an angry look at Todd before he left.
An hour later, another knock was heard on the door. Rufus perked up his ears. "Hey Todd, someone's at the door," he meowed. Todd stood up and opened the door. "Oh, thank you!" He said to a young woman who held a giant box. She gave it to him, and Todd gave her some money. "Hey Rufus, guess what just came!" He opened the box and revealed a few pounds of catnip. "CATNIP!!" Rufus screeched. Todd laughed. "I chose today because tomorrow's the day I go downtown to try and trade you for Matilda! This catnip is very special, and I hope it gives us both luck!" He opened the giant bag and dumped it onto Rufus. "YES!!! MAKE IT RAIN!!" Rufus yowled and shoved his face into the giant pile of cat drugs. Todd picked up a handful and tossed it onto Rufus's back. The cat was now covered in the small green particles. "THIS IS THE BEST DAY EVER!!" He howled as he hopped into the pile again. But once he hit the floor, everything went dark.
The Next Morning... I Think?
Rufus slowly opened his eyes. Where am I? He thought. Wait, I know where this is! Oh no.. The only place that Rufus knew like this was hell. Oh crap, Rufus thought. I must have overdosed on the catnip! I gotta escape hell again so I can be reborn! Quick Rufus, get to Todd again!
