Armor Hill High School was near the beach in Northern California. It was a regular sized high school, with a few new students a year. It was a nothing special school that I would soon be apart of. Me, the new girl, Sam Mayberry was about to enter this school not knowing anyone. I'm terrified, plain and simple. I take a deep breath and put on a smile. I didn't want to move here to Armor Hill, I loved it back in Pennsylvania, my home town. Stop thinking about it, I told myself, it will be great here, in the sun. I already know where I'm going because I studied the map until I knew exactly where all of my classes were. First, to English with Mr. Lawrence in room 312. I walk to my class, and look inside. There is only one person in the room. A man with short grayish hair and glasses. I didn't go in because I didn't want to be the pathetic new girl. So I walk a round a little and when I saw five people go in I put my smile back on and followed.

To English, I thought as I turned the corner. I felt loads better after talking to Hannah and Kim. We had been friends forever and junior year was going to be amazing. I turned the last corner on the way to Mr. Lawrence's class, and ran straight into James. James Early was sort of my boyfriend. We went out a few times, mostly in group dates, but it never really went anywhere. James was still a really good friend, so I smiled when I saw him.
"James! It's so good to see you. How was your summer?" I say, giving him a hug. "Fine, boring. How was yours?" he replies.
"Same. What's your first class?" I said, hoping I would know someone in English. "French. Qu'en pensez-vous?" James said, showing off his french.
"I'm in English with Mr. Lawrence. Well see you at lunch." We hugged one more time and headed off in different directions. I walked in to English and took a seat near the back, next to a girl I knew from last year.
"Hi, Sarah" I said, sliding into my seat. Sarah looked up from the book she was reading, and smiled. Sarah had straight dirty blonde hair and glasses that covered her brown eyes. She smiled greeted me and went back to her book. I took out a notebook, ready to get class started. I looked around the room seeing if I knew anyone else. Derrick Porter was just walking into the room. Derrick was Chris's best friend, and on the football team, like Chris. He caught my eye and winked at me. Derrick flirted with everyone who was female, so it was no surprise when he sat on my other side.
"How's it going?" asked Derrick, flashing me a smile that made all the girls want him, except me. Derrick and me had gone out a total of one time and once was enough. The date was awkward and we decided not to tell anyone about it, so now we're strictly friends.
"Good. How was your summer?" I asked knowing it would keep him talking until class started. While Derrick was describing his summer, the late bell rang and class was started. Mr. Lawrence stared talking attendance, then went over the class rules. It was usual first day stuff, so I started tuning out. Before I knew it, the bell rang, signalling the end of class. everyone started filing out, me included.
"Oh, I forgot to mention, tomorrow you will be seated in alphabetical order. That's all, you may go." said Mr. Lawrence. This news caused lots of groaning as we filed out. Great, I thought now I wouldn't be next to Derrick or Sarah. My last name was Nelson, so I'd be somewhere near the middle. The rest of the day went okay, but by the end of the day, I was defiantly ready to go home.
