Sudden Meetings

As I walked through the school on my second day, I tried my best to not pass out. Walking into my math class I avoided everyone's stare and took my seat in the middle of the class where I put my head on the desk. The dizzy feeling along with the exhaustion and lack of nutrition completely took away my concentration.

"I am assigning you all to complete a project on the pros and cons of biotechnology. I'll be handing out a worksheet, assignment instructions and a rubric to help you. You'll have until April 15th to turn this in. Anything later than that will be an automatic 10 points off and you know projects now count as 30% of your grade." That was the only part of his speech I heard and then he said something else but my brain was too foggy to hear anything else.

The door opens and apparently someone comes through and falls or something because all I hear is, "Damien, you alright bro?" "Oh my gosh, are you okay?!" And things of that nature. All the noise was starting to make my head hurt so I turned my head to the side to avoid hearing anything but somehow this lone melodious sound entered my subconscious.

"Yeah I'm fine, just felt a little dizzy for a minute." You can audibly hear people sigh and he walks towards his seat which is apparently somewhere behind me. Yet the closer he gets, the faster my heart beats. Soon enough my palms become sweaty and I start to feel dizzy again. I guess he feels what I feel, because once I find the strength to open my eyes, I see him trip over someone's backpack and then he falls, directly on me.

The pain hits me before the electric current does, a sudden sting so intense that I can feel it all the way in my cells. Too many sensations at one time cause my body to begin shaking, slowly, then more intensely as he continued to lay on me.

"Shit!" So I guess I wasn't the only one that felt it. My mind was getting fuzzy again and I heard the stupidly connected chair-desk combination be moved aside as people came to lift the weight and current off of me. I was grateful up to a point because soon after I felt hands, ones that didn't shock me, grip my upper shoulders and someone calling my name, "Marilynn, Marilynn. Wake up!" I opened my eyes again to see one of the blonde twins shaking me. Trying to get out of his hands proved to be more energy than I had so I stopped struggling and sat there.

"Can someone take them to the nurse for me?" I was picked up by one of the twins while the other one wrapped Damien's arm around his neck to help him walk. Before I knew it, we were at the nurse, but maybe it took longer than that, I had been falling asleep from time to time.

Voices talked for a while and I was laid onto a soft bed to rest. My head was lifted and a cup was pushed on my lips. I opened my mouth slightly to let the cool liquid enter my body. The sensation of it rushing into my empty stomach made me flinch and wince in pain but I was grateful for some type of nutrition at this point. After my head was laid back down, I turned it to the side and opened my eyes to see the boy, who was carried with me, standing there talking to the nurse.

She nodded at what he was saying and left the room, leaving me alone with the brown-haired boy. He was tall, I could tell even from my horizontal position, and when he turned towards me with his gray eyes, they were so intense that they left me even more breathless than I already was. I continued to stare at him and was frozen with more feeling than I had ever felt in all my seventeen years of life.
