“Slip By”
He told you he was sad
How could you let that slip by
He was a happy kid, always wore a smile
His life was so cheerful for a short while
When he got older everything got colder
Now he’s feeling down, please don’t scold him
He told you he was sad
How could you let that slip by
So, he bottles it up on the inside
On the outside, everything is all great
But, inside nothing can save him from his self hate
The seasons pass by all he wears are hoodies
‘Cause the cuts on his wrists were bleeding through, you see
If someone were to notice, he would blame it on the cat
But the gashes on his wrists were no mistake
Those would calm him, so he wouldn’t break
He told you he was sad
How could you let that slip by
So, he bottles it up on the inside
On the outside, everything is all great
But, inside nothing can save him from his self hate
He thought he was dangerous and reckless to be around
Blocking everyone out, who could ever be there when he finally broke
She asked if he was okay, it was only a rough spot
Knowing who he was, cause we all go through them
Pulling up his sleeves, she hugs him
Everyone screws up
He told you he was sad
How could you let that slip by
He told you he was sad
How could you let that slip by
So, he bottles it up on the inside
On the outside, everything is all great
But, inside nothing can save him from his self hate
He didn’t tell her he was sad
But, she couldn’t let it slip by as she pulled up her own sleeves
