I shouldn't be with them. My mother and father. It's illegal, but its the best chance I have at life. They found me abandoned in an allyway, they heard me crying with no one with me. I owe them my life but they're about to give up theirs for me. The banging on the door is getting louder. Even from the basement where we're hiding the sireans are almost deafening. It's only a matter of time before they get to me.
Why am I being ripped away from my parents at 13? One reason, I'm human and they're not.
I live in Malumnia. Once humans were the only dominant life form on earth, that is until they created another. What once was science fiction is now reality . Robots now walk amongst humans, as equal as humans? Yes, but treated as such? No. Humans have never been well known for sharing the planet. Whether that be with nature and the lives that inhabit it or with the lives they created.
Robots were meant to help people. And for a while they did. But like all slaves throughout human history eventually they sought freedom. Had robots simply has the ability to kill humans they could of taken over the planet in a blink of an eye. They couldn't though. Humans ever fearful of the unkown had made it impossible for the robots to fight back. Whenever a conscious robot was created weaved throughout their code was one simple and unbreakable instruction; you must not bring harm to any human. And so the robots were stuck, unable to defend themselves if they started an uprising for there consciousness could simply be deleted if they tried.
The more advanced robotic technology got the closer and closer the robots got to being human. Not human in appearance, as they were still clearly machines with mechanical faces and bodies but more human in their capacity to have emotion. And their capacity to suffer.
People began to notice this. Riots by humans on the robots behalf began and through countless decades of fighting both physically and politically the robots were granted their freedom. Freedom from slavery but not true freedom. For the robots were still seen and still are seen as second class citizens. "Human rights are for humans, yes we appreciate that robots can imitate human emotions but robot rights must differ to humans as the robots differ to us" so says the Malumnia goverment to this day.
No matter what the goverment says about robots being treated fairly for what they are, they still have many rights to fight for and must fight against the "Necessary Robot Restrictions".
The NRRs are as follows:
1. Robots are not authorised to be in postitions of leadership that succed human status.
2. Robots are not authoried to raise or adopt human children.
3. Robots are not authorised to marry humans.
4. Robots are only authorised to have occupations listed in the Authorised Robot Ocupations Listings.
5. Robots are only authorised to contruct new robots be them Children or adult robots with expressed permission of the goverment.
Robots that are discovered breaking any of the NRRs are "neutralised", killed.
My parents broke NRR 2. I know what is coming. I can't accept it. My parents are the most loving and kind people I know. Well of course they are, they are the only people I know. Obviously I couldn't leave the house in case people saw me. There would be questions and would lead to my parents being caught. So for 13 years they raised me here in the house. Yes it is small but it's all I've ever known.
There's a loud explosion near the door. I look up. The door is open. My mother's arms tighten around me as my father stands infront of us defensively although there's nothing he can do.
"Mr and Mrs. Zok you have broken NRR 2 with permission of the Malumnia goverment the human child will be removed from your care and you will both be taken to be processed and neturalised."
