Deadclaw turned fitfully in his sleep. Silversong's fur pressed against him was a comfort but his dream stirred in his mind. Deadclaw was standing in a field. Again he was in a strange place. At least now Windclan was actually in greenleaf but this wasn't Windclan. Again he spotted Mistlefur.
"What do you have to say now?" he growled. "This prophecy has been driving me nuts! How can I choose between something I don't even know of?"
Mistlefur nodded wisely. "The time will come. The sooner you recognize it the sooner you'll save your clan. A quest is coming. Your clan will depend on you to find the source of Silver." His voice was deep and his fur was fading.
"No!" yelled Deadclaw. He bounded forward, the dream couldn't be ending already.
"The cure is where the silver lies" his voice bellowed as fog closed in suffocating Deadclaw as he fell away.
Deadclaw jerked awake. Silversong was watching him nervously. "Are you okay?" she asked worry shining in her blue eyes.
He sighed, "I'm fine, just a dream" he meowed.
Silversong eyes him warily but got up anyway. She left the den and Deadclaw paced nervously. How much had she heard?
Deadclaw shook himself. He had to go for a run. Swallowpaw was pacing with her mentor Lightfeather nearby. Deadclaw padded towards her.
"Want to go hunting?" he asked because he knew she liked hunting better than battle training. She purred and followed him out to the moor. Deadclaw was very fond of Swallowpaw. And he loved the way she adored him and smiled at him. He ran on ahead and began scenting for rabbit. He loved grouse but rabbit was always easy to find. Silversong loved grouse too.
Deadclaw was prowling the territory. He scented rabbit ahead and signalled to Swallowpaw. She bounded ahead. He heard a screech which was quickly cut short.
Swallowpaw padded out of the heather with a plump rabbit in her mouth. Deadclaw purred as they started walking back towards camp when a feathery body burst from the bushes.
Deadclaw smiled when he caught the scent, Grouse! He leapt as high as he could and snagged the bird straight out of the air. Swallowpaw was astonished. They were both beaming as they entered camp. Fernstar was waiting.
He smiled and leapt onto the rock. "Today we have three new warriors" he smiled proudly. Swallowpaw joined her siblings, Oakpaw and Dawnpaw. She shone with pride.
Soon they were Oakstorm, Dawnsky, and Swallowflight. Swallowflight purred as the clan chanted her name. Deadclaw was very unsure. He had no idea how Silversong would react since she was Deadclaw's best friend. Deadclaw shrugged it off, hoping it wouldn't get too serious.
Then he remembered the grouse he had caught.
Deadclaw padded over to Silversong who was looking slightly defeated but was feigning a happy face for him.
"Are you jealous of Swallowflight?" he purred teasingly. Silversong gasped in horror.
"How dare you!" she meowed and stalked off. She hissed and ran out onto the moor. Deadclaw shrugged. What did he do this time?
The poor grouse was forgotten.
