She watched as the shuffling feet stopped. Emily tried not to move. In one hand, she gripped the metal bar, in the other she held on to her teddy bear. The one she had been given by her mother for her 7th birthday. Emily heard scratching behind her. There was a loud cracking noise. Wood was being broken. She cowered in the corner of the confined space. She could hear growling and gnashing noises and now the smell was strong. The thing was crawling in. It was coming for her. She stabbed at it with the metal shank and cried out. The claws reached for her one after the other and she could hear the teeth snapping shut as the thing dragged itself further into the crawlspace and closer to Emily. She shuffled backwards until her back was against the lattice on the other side. She could feel fingers there pulling on her hair and she screamed and kicked. The lattice behind her began to break away as well and she felt fingers dig into her shoulder and her arm. She was being dragged out and she the iron shank over her head. It struck the framework and was knocked from her hand. Emily could feel teeth pushing into the flesh of her shoulder. She screamed one last time as claws ripped into her torso.
