This book is based off a one shot that I never posted. I decided it wasn't good enough to post, but I kept the draft so I could come back and possibly edit it later. When I was brainstorming ideas for my next book, I decided to bring the one shot back and create a whole story around it. But first I'm going to share the original, unedited one shot. The next chapter will be a rewrite of this, which will be chapter 1 officially and the story will go from there! Enjoy everyone!
Palette's POV
This is so fun! Gothy and I are walking through a super pretty forest at night. Above us stars are twinkling, illuminating the flowers at our feet. Goth said he had something to tell me, and to be honest I do too. I have a plan of course. I'm going to make Goth say his secret first, and if it's what I hope it is then I'll tell him mine. If it's not what I hope I'll make something up to tell Goth. I hope it doesn't come to that though. Please Goth, like me back.
Goths POV
I told Palette I have something to tell him. It's too late to take it back now so I have to continue with my idea. I'm taking Palette to a clearing I found a while ago. There I'm going to tell him how much I care about him. Stupid, I know. It's the best I have though. Palette skips ahead of me down the path, occasionally glancing back at me and smiling.
Palette's POV
"Palette! Wait up!" I hear Goth call. I stop in my tracks as I let Goth catch up. Goth pants a bit. "Wow you're fast," he laughs. I take a glance at our surroundings, the flowers have been replaced by thorns, and I can barely see the stars anymore.
"Goth where are we?" I ask.
"I don't know, I was following you!" Goth replies. I spin around in a slow circle, taking this all in.
"We're looooost!" I screech. Goth puts his hand over my mouth. "Hey what's that for?!" I mumble into his palm.
"Palette I don't know what's out there! Screaming could attract attention!" Goth whispers hurriedly. I nod a bit.
Goths POV
I remove my hand from Palette's mouth as I glance around. It's silent, too silent.
"What should we do?" Palette whispers.
"We'll wait here, and I'll call my parents to come get us," I reply. Palette smiles weakly and nods in agreement. After a phone call to my parents we sit on a rock. Palette shivers slightly. I wrap my arm around him and he smiles gratefully. His head droops onto my shoulder as he begins to doze off. Palette ends up falling asleep on my shoulder. I glance down at his sleeping figure and smile to myself. Palette is too cute for this world. I daydream for a few minutes before being pulled back to reality. The sound of twigs snapping makes me alert. It can't be my dad, he'd need at least 30 minutes to get here, so someone, or something is nearby. I shake Palette awake, and he mumbles something.
"Palette there's something nearby, we need to leave!" I whisper. He gets up groggily and we begin to walk again. The thing follows us. We break into a jog. So does it. We start sprinting, and it does too. I hear labored breaths from both Palette and I, but neither of us stop. I hear a pained grunt from behind me, followed by a scream. Palette has tripped, and a demon like creature is bearing down on him. It sinks sharp teeth into Palette. I summon my own small scythe that my father gave to me. Slashing wildly I attack the demon. It flees, but not before I get a few hits off, it can't possibly survive for long. Unfortunately neither can my best friend.
Palette's POV
Pain. I guess I've never know the true meaning of it. Until now that I'm dying. I'm sure I'm dying, by the numbness slowly traveling through my body, and the look Goth is giving me. He is Death's son after all. He knows this kind of stuff. I look at him and smile weakly. He musters up the strength to smile back.
"You wanted to tell me something?" I ask, voice barely audible, even to myself. Goth nods. "Then go ahead silly!" I joke. He smiles sadly as tears fill his beautiful, beautiful eyes.
"Y-Yeah, Palette I- Well... I love you Palette," Goth confesses.
"I love you too Gothy, remember that ok?" I say.
Then.
It all goes....
Black.
Goths POV
Palette's eye close. Oh god no. No no no. My eyes widen in shock and horror as his feet slowly turn to dust. I sit paralyzed as he fades away. Soon all that's left is his clothing, covered in dust. I pick up the silly hat I loved to yank off his head when he wasn't looking. I lower my hood, and place it on my head. It fits snugly on my head, and send warmth through my body. It reminds me of Palette. I see a ghostly figure of Palette rise up. His spirit, waiting to be reaped. My dad appears in front of me. His eyes lock with mine before he reaps Palette then and there. Then. Palette was gone for good. Gone forever. My dad grabs hold of my wrist and teleports me home. I break down on the floor, clutching the stupid hat to me chest. My dad just leaves. Leaves me and my breaking sanity.
