I knew there should be nothing in my house to make a banging sound. Mom was at work, and I was an only child. We had no animals either.
I decided to be stupid, and left my room. My only excuse was to check it out.
I followed the sound all the way downstairs. It was coming from the front door! I walked up to it, and peeked around the corner. WHAM! The screen door slammed back into place before opening again.
I unlocked my door then opened it. I latched the screen door shut, then locked it. "That should hold it," I said aloud. Then I shut the door again and locked it. I leaned my head against it in relief.
"Bravo!" I jumped and whirled around. Harry was standing behind me. In my house.
I suddenly felt angry. He shouldn't be in here!
"You know, you really suck at locking every window and door," he smirked at me.
"What do you mean? I locked every one! How did you get in here!" I yelled at him.
"The window in the basement wasn't. It was pretty simple from there." Then Harry turned around and walked to my stairs.
"Where are you going?!" I yelled.
"Upstairs!" He yelled back. Then he sprinted up them.
Crap! I don't trust him at school, why would I trust him here? I took off after him.
I got upstairs and started to search all the rooms. Where could he be? Then I got to mine. It was the only room I hadn't checked yet.
The door was partially open, so I pushed it open the rest of the way. There he was! Just sitting on my bed, and looking through a notebook. What was he reading?
Wait a minute! I knew what was in it. That notebook was where I wrote all of my stories. It had everything. Well, that's a lie. Only because I got rid of the others.
"What are you doing?!" I asked him.
"I'm just reading these stories. They're really good!" He told me.
"Wh-what? They are?" I stammered.
"Of course!"
"Why are you being nice suddenly. Why are you in my room, let alone my house?"
"Because... We need to talk Lucy!"
"Talk? About what? What could there possibly be to talk about? Forget that we barely know each other for one day!"
"Calm down little munchkin," he attempted to say.
"Stop calling me that! You've been doing it all day!"
"Woah! I'm sorry, jeez." Then Harry set my notebook aside and stood up. He walked towards me, and touched my cheek.
His hands were cold. Were they this way before? I didn't really pay attention. Maybe my bad dream really messed with me..
"So beautiful," he whispered.
"What is?"
"Oh.. nothing."
"What? Tell me!"
"No." and with that, he ran out of my room.
I decided to follow him, but when I reached the hall he was gone. I looked everywhere for him. I even listened for a door to slam shut or something. But he was gone. Why wouldn't he tell me?
I gave up trying to find him after an hour. Mainly because my mom came home. I hoped he wouldn't suddenly show up. Not with her here anyways.
But he didn't.
"How was your first day honey?" My mom asked me while we were eating dinner.
"Oh, umm, it was fine. Not anything like my old school, that's for sure." I purposefully left the bathroom part out. I didn't want to worry her. She had already done so much to get me away, why would I ruin it?
She acted like she didn't believe me, but she let it go. I finished eating, then gathered up the dirty dishes. When I finished washing them I went to my room.
"Goodnight mom!" I yelled while running up the stairs.
When I get to my room, I hear my phone ringing. I look at it, but I do not recognize the number. Curious, I answer it.
"Hello? Who is this?" I ask.
The line is quiet, and whoever it is hangs up.
"Well ok then," I say quietly to myself. I lay down on my bed and fall into a restless sleep.
