*Your Perspective*
Just as you pull back, your phone rings. Before grabbing it, you catch a glimpse of Hongbin's reaction. He remains standing, thumb grazing over his now swollen lips. He was shocked, no doubt. Smirking, you slide the green answer button with satisfaction. You have left Hongbin speechless.
"Agent?" it was the recognizable voice of Cody.
"Hmmm?" you hum loudly.
"She's in town," he responds excitedly.
"She? Who's she?" you reply with a confused expression plastered on to your face.
"Jess!" he extends the 's' and makes a snake sound.
"Jess?" you scream and hop off the table. You glance back to where Hongbin was once standing. Your stomach drops when you notice he isn't there. You bring the phone away from your ear and block the microphone with the palm of your hand. "Hongbin?
That's when the loud sound of the door slamming shut echoes throughout your empty apartment. The warm fuzzy feeling drowns away, missing his presence. You rush towards the entrance and open it only to be mocked by the utter silence of the dead corridor. Your head begins to reel and the pain in your stomach only grows. You hear the soft beeping of your phone and your turn your undivided attention towards it.
Oh crap, I forgot Cody was still online.
You hear the noisy thumps of footsteps. Groaning, you close the door swiftly, not wanting to deal with the consequences. You heart feels heavy and you make your way back to the dining table, mind filled with deep thoughts about Hongbin.
Was it that bad? Is that why he ran away?
Goosebumps rise in your skin as you remember his distinct touch. A smile breaks on to your face subconsciously and you sense the urge to feel him again. The doorbell rings various times, knocking you right out of your own world. You run towards it, pulse increasing with every step.
What if it's him?
You open the door to find Cody. He barges in. That's when you realize that it's not a dream. You kissed Hongbin in the real world- real time and he ran away. You watch as Cody finds your phone. He sighs and shakes his head, looking back at you.
"Agent, don't do that again," he says and comes closer to you. "You made me feel worried. I thought something happened to you!"
"Well nothing did happen, right?" you say angrily. You're tired of his stupid attitude. He thinks that you need protection, but you do not. You're an independent woman, one of the few female workers of CIA and this is how you're treated. "I can take care of myself, Cody. I do realize that I hung up on you, but I don't need to explain why. I'm an agent for crying out loud! I could've been in the middle of an important meeting and you could've come in to ruin everything. I'm sick and tired of your shitty attitude towards me because I'm a woman! You never treat our male coworkers like how you treat me!"
You stop there, realizing that you were blowing all of your anger from previous events. He stares into your eyes, searching for something. You look at the floor. You feel your eyes beginning to water. You sniffle a bit, but hold it back. You mustn't cry. You haven't even cried in twenty years and now shouldn't be the time to start.
"Agent..." Cody comes and wraps you in his arms. The sudden affection made you feel better, but it didn't feel right.
