Broken Promises

Taeyong didn't believe in luck. But for once in his life, he wished that such a thing as luck existed so that it could get him out of the crappy situation he found himself in. He knew from the beginning that they would bring him trouble, years of constantly being under threat in his line of work had trained his instincts and his eidetic memory to see things that others didn't. If a criminal was framed? He sensed it. If a client was going to try and sabotage them? He would know instantly. What he didn't expect? That the boys in front of him would turn out to be EXO, the group he was supposed to protect with his life and risk his identity for. The worst part of it was Oh Sehun, the boy who had his brother's shade of eye color and blunt attitude, and the fact that he was testing his loyalty and sincerity for the group.

That wasn't the major problem though, and the real problem had Taeyong tightening his hands into a fist. Taeyong had already blew the assignment before he started it by revealing his true identity to EXO. Every assignment a Yensen employee takes always has a fake identity, but he just revealed his true name to the boys. Who would he introduce himself as at the audition? They would instantly see through his fake alias and would suspect him. And if he went as Kim Taeyong? Let's just say Jin's reaction wouldn't be over exaggerated at all.

10 years ago during the Yensen tragedy everyone had known his parent's, his brother's, and Taeyong's name. Yensen back then wasn't secretive and employees used their real identities both in and out of work. However, after the tragedy, the location changed and more security measures were enforced. People believed that Yensen had completely shut down, when in reality, it had just gone in hiding. It was better that way, Yensen avoided unnecessary attention and danger while they continued to protect their nation as a secret police force.

The public had dismissed the event as a tragedy, and after a couple of days of mourning the loss of a wonderful government police force, the public began to move on and forget about the Kim family and their corporation. The only people who knew that Yensen still existed were the few in the Seoul police force that our company occasionally worked with along against authoritative figures, clients, and the on-going enemies/crime organizations that try to destroy the company. Other than that, Yensen Corporation was just another tragic chapter in school textbooks.

In other words, Taeyong was screwed. There really was only two options left for him to choose from. One, drop the mission, let EXO fend for themselves, and give up on finding his brother along with getting revenge on the gang. Or two, complete the mission successfully, get more intel on the 3 Blazes, and learn more about the tragedy that occurred within his family seven years ago. Taeyong, for the second time today, felt like he was on the verge of a breakdown. He thought he was ready for the mission and for the truth about his brother, only to find out that he wasn't. That alone terrified him more than anything else.

"I think he's in shock."

"It's not that surprising, is it Lay? We're too good looking to be normal people after all."

"Stop being so cocky Chaneyol, he's just surprised."

"How would you know, Kai?"

Taeyong blankly stared at his fisted hands as millions of emotions ran through his eyes. He could feel Sehun's unwavering gaze on him and knew he couldn't screw this up. He wasn't ready for the 3 Blazes or any of this crap, but that didn't mean he wouldn't be in the future. By the time he faced his enemy, he would be ready. Sehun was testing him? Bring it on then.

"Are you going to stay quite forever Taeyong? I want to get this done with before the food gets here." Sehun asked as his eyes hardened. Taeyong's face was hidden from his view and it annoyed Sehun. He needed to know if Taeyong would consider them normal and as unimportant as before, or if he would suck up to them for their fame like all the other disgusting people in the industry. "Do you need more time to scheme up a plan to get our money and publicity? If that's the case, get the hell out of-"

SMACK!

"What?" Taeyong was beyond enraged and didn't bother hiding it as he held Sehun against the wall with his hands fisted into the boy's collar,"Yah, I don't need you money and quite frankly, your publicity terrifies me. What the hell is so special about you guys? You dance, sing, get used by your company, and back stabbed by your friends. I wouldn't want that type of attention even if you offered it to me." Taeyong said as he shoved Sehun away from him and moved towards the exist.

"Woah, did you see that punch! He's better than me and I've been doing martial arts for years!"

'Have fun looking for another friend Oh Sehun.'

If one was to look at Taeyong now, leaning on the back of his penthouse door with expressionless eyes, they would see a teenager on the brink of a break down. They would notice that under the billion of walls and cheerful expressions that the boy created, there was a boy screaming for the comfort of his mother, his father, and his twin.

Sehun might have not known, but he struck a nerve in Taeyong who was all to familiar with money and how people reacted to it. After his mother had fallen into depression, countless of Yensen woman were after his father's money and tried to get on his father's good side by being good to Taeyong. He despised it and although his father never met with any of the women, is still bothered him that he kept the woman in the corporation.

It bothered him that his father spent more time with them than he did with his own son.

Taeyong let his body slide to the floor as he felt his exhaustion grow.

'It hurts.'

'My heart, is it supposed to hurt this much?'

"Taeyong, is that you?"

'Dad, you broke your promise.'

"Tae-Taeyong! Why are you over there?!"

'You promised me you would save Hansol, you promised me you would protect me.'

'So why isn't he here, dad? Why don't I feel safe?

"Taeyong, hey talk to me! Are you okay? Tae- you're freezing!" Taeyong distantly felt hands circle around his body and pressed himself into it as the smell of cinnamon engulfed him. 'Jungkook'.

"Jeonie?"

"Ye-yeah it's me, hold on, okay? We're almost there." It wasn't long before Taeyong felt his body being lowered onto the bed in his and Jungkook's room. He felt Jungkook climb in next to him and wrap up the blankets around the two as Jungkook pulled Taeyong's body towards his in effort to keep Taeyoung warm.

"Don't leave."

"I wouldn't even if you told me too."

"P-promise?"

"I promise." Jungkook muttered affectionately as he felt Taeyong wrap his arms around him.

'I'll always be beside you, Young-ah.'
