A/N : I wrote this book when I was 15 so if it seems immature I'm extremely sorry. I apologise also in advance for any errors you may come across.
Yaamin's P.O.V {point of view}
All they told me was that Dad was sick, how sick I didn't know. As I walked into his hospital room I noticed a chair that my mother had vacated to get a cup of something warm. She was here all morning...never leaving his side. From the blinds that don't allow sunlight in, to the cream peach carpets everything was calm...except my racing pulse.
Abhi slept on his hospital bed with tubes in his mouth for assisted breathing on his chest and in his arm. Blues, greens, reds...clear . The heart monitor said '65' , which either meant he was getting better or worse I knew not.
Ummi {my mother} walked in with a a cup of tea and in that minute as I saw her tear stricken face, dark circles around her eyes, to her body leaning slightly forward out of tiredness and worry, a tear rolled down my cheek.
"Oh Yaamin, don't worry, everything will be fine," she said wiping the tear away.
"How's Abhi?" I asked
"The Doctor says he's progressing...he'll be fine," She said with a slight smile. "Now go and check on Yusrah. "
Yusrah was my younger sister by 4 years [15 years old ] who had recently had her birthday but my father was absent due to the fact that he was bedridden and hospitalised the day before. We were never allowed in then, apparently it was for Medical purposes.
"Yusrah, " I called out once I walked out of the hospital room. She quickly rushed towards me and enveloped me in a hug.
"How's Abhi?" She asked
"Ummi says he's fine...how are you? "
"As long as Dad's in hospital I ain't fine!"
"Oh Yusrah...have some faith in your Rabb {Lord} "
" I do, I do," she said and we sat outside waiting for some news, any news.
Just then...The heart monitor started beating loudly. The nurses hurried towards the hospital room with Yusrah and I in tow. Dad had woken up, this sure was a miracle, Shukran ya Rabb {I thank you Lord}. One of the nurses hurried us towards his bedside telling is that my father had requested to speak to all of us.
"Abhi, you have to fight, for our sake please?" I pleaded with him
"I have fought for this moment my entire life to finally be with you all together, and right now is the time I have to stop." He said in a hoarse croaky voice. "My dear children and my beloved Hala, I would just like to say-" *cough* "that I love you all very much and don't ever forget that. Even when I'm gone -" *cough*
"Abhi!" I stopped him
"No Yaamin, I don't have much time left, Just remember to have faith in your Rabb and no matter what...Smile," He said then closed his eyes and rested his head on the pillow. I distinctly heard him start with, "La illaha" and finish off with "Rasulullah" ...His kalimah {Supplication at the time of death}
My mother kissed him on the forehead for a brief second and after that his nose bends slightly, his skin colour changes...The symptoms...NO!
I shook his hand slowly....no response.
Ummi legs gave away and she slumped down onto the chair next to him, her head in her hands and her body shaking due to her loud sobs.
Yusrah screamed and cried, slowly falling to the floor at the same time. Seconds turned into minute's, minute's turned into hours...It seemed as if time slowed and then finally...stopped.
A/N: Assalamu Alaykum and Hello to you all. I apologise for the short chapter, Chapter 2 will be much longer and will be packed with humour so hold onto your boots! With best regards, Hameeda.
