There is a slight drizzle that afternoon when Liza looked out the window of her room. The sun is hiding from the thick mass of dark clouds. It's light gives the raindrops a crystal-like effect. Hoping to see a rainbow, Liza slowly took a chair beside the window and sat down enjoying the scene that continues to mesmerize her.

Unwarily, her mind drifted from memories happened many years ago, when she was a young girl and still adjusting to the life in the fast-paced city.

"Is she an ape?" she heard a girl asking her companion who was combing her hair in front of the mirror inside the ladies room.

"Ape? Was she referring to her?" She remembered her father once used the term "orangutan" when he called her. The name-calling caused an argument between her parents.

Her father always said she has a comical look that is best suited for clowns. Her father could not bear the fact that she's not pretty and he clearly shows his disgust to her. He treats her cruelly to the fact that she was never introduced to his friends. He said that it is a shame to know that she is his offspring.

Her trip down to the memory lane was suddenly disrupted by the slight squeak of the door opening. It was her mother.

"I'm going to attend the evening mass. If I have enough time I'll go to the market. Is there something you want? her mother said.

"Okay... carrots will do," she quickly answered.

She smiled at the slight idea that she still has her mother who understands and accepts her as who she is. She never heard her mother utter a single word of disgust, instead she showered her with all the love and affection a mother can do for her child.

She is her strength and she always lends a helping hand whenever she needs it the most. She is her Angel, a light from the dark and the only one who knows her better.

She quickly rose from her seat and ran towards her mother. She gave her a kiss and wraps her in an embrace. Tears flowing from her eye she uttered, "Thank you Mommy, you're the greatest and I really LOVE you."

Her mother kissed her gently and wipes away her tears and she smiled slightly and Liza could not ask for anything expect for her mother's unrelenting love. ♥
