Lightkit hacked. A flood came from the tiny kitten's mouth, and all she could see were a pair of great cyan orbs. She squeaked, incredibly confused.
"Shhh, it's okay dear, you're safe..." A soothing voice meowed. She soon realised that there was a cream coloured cat with an orange tail, paws and muzzle standing over her, and he had been the one to save her from the river. Both of their furs were soaked through. "You were lucky that it is not winter, you would be close to coldsleep. I still think you should be treated as though you were chilled, though. Eat," The patient tom nudged toward her a few small, soft leaves which she lapped up nervously. She could see that this was not her den. This place smelled strongly of mud and pine trees. She could also see that the tom's back was now turned and he was speaking to a large brown tabby. The menacing look in his eyes was very reminiscent of Barkstorm, but his long, sharpened claws were not. She shivered and backed away into a corner. Her leg gave a shooting pain, causing her to stumble. The other tom turned back to her. "Don't worry, like I said, you're safe. I'm Applespark, the medicine cat of Frostclan. What's your name, little one?" She didn't know whether to answer or not. Hollynose had told her that Frostclan were evil.
"L-L-L-Li-Lightkit..."
"Ah! A fitting name for a kit with eyes as bright as yours. Anyways, I'm sure your clan must be worried. You're going to be staying here overnight, as we need to monitor you after such a traumatic little event. Am I allowed to take a look at your leg?"
Another shooting pain caused her to instinctively bite her lip and shake her head.
"Are you sure? I can make it better."
She took a deep breath and nodded, showing him her leg. He went quiet.
"It's.... a bit swollen, definitely a sprain. I'm sure some elder leaves will clear that right up."
As he disappeared to go fetch the herbs, Lightkit noticed they had an audience. A small black shape stared at her from the den entrance with bright green eyes. She could tell something was different about this kit. She didn't even blink for about a minute when she finally realised she was staring and shook her head. Applespark returned with his jaws churning away, and he snatched some cobwebs to wrap his poultice around Lightkit's leg. "There." The black cat hadn't been noticed as she scampered into the den. Lightkit hadn't even seen her move.
"A-A-A-Ap-Apples-Applespark?" She choked out.
"Yes? What's wrong?"
"M-M-My head hurts..." She squeaked. The medicine cat placed a paw on her forehead.
"Very warm. Hold on," As he left again to fetch more feverfew and wet moss, the kit stared at the RainClan kit once again.
Applespark waved his tail across her nose, snapping her out of her little unblinking trance. "Here. Eat." He nudged a sprig of feverfew towards her and she ate it obediently. "Go and sit in that nest over there and drink," She nodded and went to sit next to Lightkit, still staring with a couple blinks every minute or so. Her tongue emerged from her maw to lap at the wet ball of moss Applespark had given her. Lightkit shivered uncomfortably. She didn't like being stared at.
"Hey, Stalkerkit, maybe the staring is making our guest a bit uncomfortable," The medicine cat giggled as he groomed his pelt.
"Oh, s-s-sorry!" The little black kit's ears turned scarlet and her eyes shifted away. It only took a moment for her to look back at her fellow kit. "You're all wet, do you want help?" She asked, noticing that she was struggling to groom her thick white pelt. Lightkit blinked. She nodded.
The dubbed 'Stalkerkit' began to lick her new acquaintance dry as the two sat in silence.
"There. So you're Lightkit? Is it true you're from RainClan?" She suddenly blurted out, obviously excited. "S-s-sorry if I'm nosy..."
"Y-y-y-yeah, l-last time I checked," Lightkit smirked. "What happens t-to be your name, Stalkerkit?"
"I'm Sootkit, not Stalkerkit..." She mewed quietly. "I-I-I'm really sorry for staring."Lightkit would have reassured her that it was fine, but she was interupted by Applespark.
"You look a lot better, Sootkit. Go back to the nursery and to Nightstar's side, she must be worried sick..." Nightstar? She was the kit of the Frostclan leader?! She blinked as her friend left the den. Alone, she delicately crossed her paws and lay her head to rest.
