G R A C I E

I'm having a bad day.

I try to be positive, I think there is no need in thinking the worst of things. Although, today I'm not having it. My day has already started out bad and I can tell it's only going downhill.

First, I woke up late so I had to run my ass off to be ready on time. Then, I left my breakfast at home. And now I realize I'm out of gas and have to stop on the way to school. After that, I have to drop my little brother, Jasper, off at school.

My mom and Dad have been on edge with us all week about stupid stuff. 'Put this away, pick that up, that doesn't go there, blah blah blah.'

So now I'm definitely going to get my butt chewed out for making Jasper late.

I love my life.

Jasper and I hop in my dirty, barely running, hand-me-down car my father gave me. Mostly because he wanted to buy a newer one for himself. Typical. Also, I needed any type of car desperately. I pull out of the driveway and make my way to the gas station.

"Are we going to be late?" Jasper asks thoughtfully.

Jasper has to be the coolest little brother ever. He's thirteen years old, an avid Star Wars fan, hilarious, and is too smart for his own good.

Him and I resemble each other in many ways, tan skin, curly brown hair, and hazel eyes. We don't fight too much, but when we do, it's like world war three.

"I am, you're not." I chuckle, glancing at the clock.

"Thank God. You can't make me late to first period again!"

"You're such a dork."

He slumps back into his seat in an exaggerated manner. "Ha-ha."

I stop to get gas, once I start filling up the tank, Jasper asks, "Can I go in and get a drink?"

I run my hand through my hair, "You're kidding."

"I'm a growing boy! I'm hungry as shit. Plus, you owe me money. This can be payback."

I thought he forgot about the money I owed him. Dammit.

"Make it snappy. And get me something." I say as I give the money to him, earning a hug in return.

I finish pumping gas and crank the car as Jasper sprints out and hops in the car.

"Here." He gives me a banana and a bottle of water. Saving himself three candy bars and two canned soft drinks.

"Are you trying to tell me something?" I ask, glancing at my banana compared to his candy.

He smiles at me and pops the top on the can.

I pull into his school and he's gathers his snacks and supplies. "I'll be back this afternoon to get you. Love you!"

"Love you too. Bye Gracie." He shuts the door and walks in the front doors.

I speed to school and once I get there I practically run inside.
