Making Alliances

I woke with a start, my head swinging up just far enough to hit the tree branch on top of me. Dazed I struggled to my feet and touched my forehead. My fingers came back sticky with blood.
I looked for Jackson and Evelyn. I found Jackson laying on the grass still unconscious. Evelyn was nowhere to be found.
I stumbled over to Jackson and shook him. His eyes slowly opened. He shot up and looked around wildly.
"Where are we?" he asked.
I shrugged and said,"We should probably leave before somebody finishes us."
He nodded and we started toward a little clearing in the trees. When we got there I noticed that there were two people sitting in the clearing. I pulled my sword out of my sheath and Jackson pulled out a odd weapon. It looked like two metal balls attached by a chain. That was actually exactly what it was.
We started towards the people when suddenly one of them whipped around and threw a rock at me. I blocked it with my sword and charged at them.
The boy who threw the rock tried to run but tripped on his shoelace and fell. The girl next to him screamed and tried to help him up. Jackson and I stopped charging. We put away our weapons and approached them slowly.
"Hey we aren't here to hurt you," Jackson said.
The boy looked at us with round blue eyes and said,"Thank you."
I nodded and replied," What are your names."
"I'm Rico and this is my friend Amber," the boy said gesturing to the girl.
"Cool I'm Chester but my friends call me Chesher," I said.
"I'm Jackson and my friends call me, well Jackson I guess," said Jackson.
"Do you guys want to help us out?" I asked.
Rico nodded and we walked over to sit with them.
"We are going to go find my friend Evelyn," I said.
"Since when?" asked Jackson.
"Since now," I replied.
"Is she single?" Jackson asked thoughtfully.
I replied by slapping him across the face.
"Ow!" He exclaimed.
"We should leave soon," said Amber.
I nodded and we got up and walked over to a more desert like biome. As we walked Jackson pestered the two friends with questions. Suddenly something flashed in the corner of my eye. People were near us fighting. I threw the others down and kept my eyes on the fighters.
Suddenly a fireball flew toward us, exploding a short ways away. Sand flew all around and I couldn't see. I rushed out of the sand she a large man punched me in the jaw. Pain exploded across my face as I stumbled back. The man pulled out a club and charged at me. I pulled out my demon sword and ran at him. I met him in mid strike with my sword, cutting his club in half. I slashed at his left leg as he stumbled backwards. He lost his balance and fell. I advanced and ran him through with my sword. Blood splattered across my face as I yanked then sword out.
Jackson rushed over to me, Amber and Rico on his heels.
Suddenly another man appeared slamming into me and sending me sprawling across the sand. Jackson threw his chain ball weapon across the guys neck. It weighed him down choking him all the way down. Two more men appeared. Amber thruster out her hand and suddenly the guy flew back hitting his head on a tree with a sickening crack. The other man ran at Rico, who calmly flicked him. The man when flying backwards landing on his head with a sickening crunch.
"What the hell is happening here!" Exclaimed a voice behind us.
I turned just in time to see a wave of sand flying towards us.
