What do teenage girls do best? Answer - Forget. And that's what I did, by accident of course(!) but I still forgot about it for, like, a week. By "it" I mean the necklace Grandma gave me. Yeah, I am still confused, duh, but I have a small memory! Maybe I should try and figure it out. It might have a clue on it somewhere. Oh look, I'm a detective now!
Anyway, so this necklace - it really was a beautiful necklace, old, but it had that "old antique" pretty if you know what I mean. The chain is gold - REAL gold - and is large enough to put around your head so you don't have to deal with any confusing hooks or anything, which I find nice. The actual pendant was an oval which hung vertical on the chain, it too was made of gold and on the front was a star (tattoo style) and a tiara engraved on top of each other in the middle. You know, there's a cut in the side. What is th - Oh! It's a locket! I wonder what's in it? Hmm... It's not opening. Why Not?! Gah! This is so aggravating! So, here I am, a perfectly normal teenager that's fighting a necklace. Well, since this obviously isn't working, I will take it to Mom. I really don't think it would be good if I broke it.
*After about 20 minutes of trying to find Mom*
"MOM!" I screamed. "I NEED YOUR HELP!" Okay, it wasn't really 20 minutes - it was more like 2. And unfortunately I wasn't blessed with the "virtue" of patience. So, I going for the easier option - yelling. SO, I know wait for the re - "What? Why are you yelling." Guess I don't have to wait long - found Mom. I go up to her and hold out the necklace - just staring at her. This obviously annoys her (part of the reason I did it) and this is expressed when she looks between me and the necklace. "What do you want me to do? Admire it or walk away? It will be the latter if you don't day something." She says in a threatening tone. This, of course, made me laugh a little. "Can you open it? I've been trying to for, like, the past hour. And I thought maybe you could." I told her simply. Her face went from aggravated to cold in an instant. It was weird to me. For a minute she just watched the necklace - like it was going to jump out of my hand any second now.
After a few minutes of her odd staring she finally opened her mouth. "That's impossible." She stated - her voice just as cold as her eyes now. And to be honest it was kinda freaking me out.
But -wait- she never took my necklace from my hand. "How do you know that? You never even tried to open it." I'm trying to stay calm. What's with her? First she goes all creepy, and now she's being stubborn.
"I don't need to try. If that's the necklace Mom gave you, I know I can't open it." She stated, with the warmth creeping back into her eyes. Okay, so the problem here is... the locket?
"How is that the case?" I inquired, "It's a locket, which means it opens. Since you can't open it how am I supposed to see inside?" She looked upset for a moment. But what she said (somehow)confused me even more. "You open it. You're the only one who can."
...What? "Mom is this another one of your stupid fairytales stories? Cause if it is I will go find someone else who-" She cut me off, "It's not. I assure you. I shouldn't have left you in the dark for so long." She mumbled the last part to herself. "What is that supposed to mean?!" I somewhat yelled, "In the dark? What am I in the dark about?"
Mom sighed, she looked worriedly at me, and rubbed her eyes. "You are the only person who can open the locket. None of the fairytales as you say are fake. I believe this because I have experience with most of the creatures you believe couldn't possibly be real. I know it will be hard for you to believe since there is no scientific proof. But... that necklace is more than just a locket (Duh! I got that), it is filled with magic. You are the only one with the power to open it. Once, and not until, you understand this and say the right words will the locket open. It will explain this whole scenario better than I could." And with that she went to her room and shut the door leaving me frozen in place with my jaw on the floor just rolling around.
Okaaay, now what? I figured she wasn't about to come back out, so I picked up the necklace and went to my room. So, I understand evidently magic is real (sort of) and that I have to say some magic words to get it to open. Hmmmm "Open Sesame!" I said waving my arms around. Oh geez, I probably look like a real genius sitting here screaming at a locket while flinging my arms around like a crazy person. So, the fake words don't work. Well, I will try using force again (because it worked sooo well last time).
~about 3 minutes later~
"Why won't this OPEN?! ARG!!" I whisper-yelled, It was like 11 pm on a Sunday night. Me being my calm self - threw the locket across the room at my dirty clothes hamper on the opposite side of the room. "Damn! I wish this stupid thing would just open already!" I yelled at the wall, "I have a MAGIC POWER?? Evidently not!" Okay... maybe not as calm as I want to be. I'm going to give up for the night. Maybe I will dream something that will help my situation, probably not but it will calm me down at least. I have school tomorrow, I need sleep. I turned out the lights and fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow. Too much confusion for one day, I guess.
~There was one thing Emmie missed when she went to sleepo. The locket had opened. She wished it to happen so it did, and a small slip of paper peaked out (not literally) of the open locket. Guess she will see what it says in the morning.
