Harper walked along the crowded city streets when she came across a blonde boy. He caught her eye, so she decided to talk to him. "Hello there. What is your name?" She asked the boy curiously. Instead of answering her, he made some unusual gestures with his hands. >My name is Damien. I cannot speak.< The young adult smiled and said, "I am incredibly sorry but I do not know sign language. I knew I should have payed more attention in high school." Damien sighed in defeat and looked down at the ground. He had no other way of talking. Harper could see that he was sad. "Hey." Harper said smiling. "Is it okay if I hold your hand?" Damien nodded, suddenly getting and idea. He took her hand, holding it so that her palm was facing up. With his finger, he spelled out his name on her hand. "Ow!" Harper said laughing. "That tickles! Stop it!" Damien looked at her apologetically and let go of her hand. He pointed to her, trying to ask her name. "What is it?" The woman asked admiring his green eyes. The boy narrowed his eyes and tapped her forehead. "Harper." She said finally understanding. "Harper Majorey." Damien smiled and took her hand again before pointing to himself. He looked down at her hand and tried spelling out his name again. "D. A. M. I. E. N. Damien!" Harper said happily. "My what a lovely name you have!" Damien blushed. After a second, he made sure that she was still looking at him and made a slashing gesture across his throat. "What?" Harper asked smiling at him. He made the gesture again before covering his mouth. Still confused on what Damien meant, Harper made an educated guess. "Oh your hungry! Okay! Well what do you say..." she began to say before whispering into his ear, "Let's go on a date shall we?" Damien looked at her in shock. He shook his head furiously. Then, he opened his mouth to "talk" but was only able to make a lame croaking sound. Harper paused for a moment and stood there in silence. He made a zipping gesture over his lips. Harper placed her hand on his shoulder and said, "I understand your mute. I don't see any reason why I should make a big deal out of it... because I see you for you... and I see a handsome guy that I would love to go on a date with." Damien blushed again. He didn't think he'd be a very fun date. "So Mr. Damien, Are you up for a date?" Harper asked opening her arm towards Damien to where he could lock his arm into hers if he agreed. Damien sighed. He didn't want to disappoint her, so he nodded. 'She is very pretty and kind.' He thought.
Harper smiled happily as she locked her arm into his. "Let's walk down town. The buildings are fascinating at this time of day." She said smiling. Damien liked the way that she smiled. It made him feel better. "So what are you hungry for?" Harper naturally asked forgetting about Damien muteness. Damien glared up at her. "Hm?" Harper asked smiling. "Well how about seafood? Does that sound good to you?" Damien shrugged since it was the best response he could offer. "Okay. Seafood is really good Damien. It reminds me of my home. I think you will like it quite a lot." Harper said moving her arm out from Damien's and grabbing onto his hand. Damien smiled shyly. He really liked the girl. Harper looked up at the beautiful skyscrapers and admired how the sunset reflected off of their mirror like windows. "Look Damien. Aren't they beautiful?" She asked always making him feel included. "Just a few more blocks and we will be there." Damien smiled and nodded. Harper didn't know why, but she felt as if she were starting to like Damien more and more. It didn't matter that he couldn't speak because she felt the two of them shared a soul connection. "Ah! Here it is!" Harper said happily. "It's been a good while since I've been here." Damien's smile brightened. He'd have to figure out some way to thank her or at least repay her.
"Welcome to The Coast" a waitress greeted. "How many will there be today?" She asked. "Just the two of us!" Harper said happily squeezing Damien's hand tightly. "Right this way." The waitress said as she lead them to a nearby table. Damien looked around curiously. He didn't think he'd ever been to such a nice restaurant before. Harper moved her long black hair behind her back as she handed him a menu. "Get whatever you like." She said smiling brightly. The blonde boy stared down at the menu. He'd never heard of most of the dishes. However, one in particular caught his eye. He tapped Harper on the arm to get her attention before pointing out the dish questioningly. "Oh." Harper said surprised. "I will get the same thing then." Damien smiled a bit. >What?< he signed slowly. He wanted to know what the dish was. "What?" Harper asked while grabbing his hand. Damien nodded quickly and then tapped the description of the dish again. "It says Calamari fried squid with tartar or marinara sauce." Harper read aloud. All of a sudden the waitress came back and said, "Hello can I start you off with something to drink?" Distracted from Damien, Harper looked at her and said, "I would like a Dr. Pepper and..." Out of habit, Damien made the sign for water. The waitress wrote down what Harper wanted to drink, resulting in her not seeing him. Damien made a strange noise, somewhat like an annoyed groan. Harper looked up from the menu slightly embarrassed. Harper had to make a quick decision. "And he..." She said rushing her fingers through Damien's soft blond hair. "He would like a water please." The blonde boy nodded. "Okay." The waitress said. "Do you need a few more minutes deciding what to order?" "Yes please." Harper said softly.
