I wandered around the strange house memorizing where the kitchen, living room, and bathroom were. It was my house after all. But I had only consciously lived there for one night. Not even. I saw my mom sitting in the kitchen drinking coffee.
“Hi Mom,” I greeted her.
“Hi, sweetie. Are you ready for school?” she asked me. School? I totally forgot.
“Oh, I just wanted to say hi first. I’m gonna go get ready now,” I stuttered. I ran up the stairs and into my room. At least that was the same as always. I looked into the closet and saw my familiar collection of clothes. Thank goodness it was still there. I chose dark jeans with a floral top. I applied makeup and put my hair in a half up do. There. I was ready for school. I looked for my backpack under my bed and went downstairs.
Mom was gone by the time I got back down. I looked inside the cupboards for breakfast and pulled out a cereal box and some milk. As I poured my milk and cereal, my phone vibrated. Who could that be? I took out my iPhone to see “Zayn Malik” written on the lock screen. I let out a little shriek and unlocked my phone. “Hey, I’ll meet you at our corner in 5 minutes. Don’t be late again! –Zayn xx” I was silently holding in a scream. THE Zayn Malik asked me to meet him somewhere! I hurriedly ate my food then brushed my teeth, before rushing out the door.
“Annabelle!” a familiar voice yelled as I ran down the sidewalk. I stopped at the corner of my street and saw none other than Zayn Malik. Play it cool. Act like you’ve known him for your whole life, because theoretically, you have. Don’t fan-girl in his face and ACT NORMAL.
“Hey Zayn!” I said as I reached the dark haired boy.
“I think this is the first time you’ve never been late!” he laughed.
“Well don’t get used to it!” I teased.
“Come on, we don’t want to be late for our big English test today,” he told me as he grabbed my hand and walked me down the street. What year was it? It seemed that no one recognized him. I checked my phone, 2010. It was probably just before he entered X-Factor.
When we reached the school, Zayn walked me to my locker. “I’ll see you in an hour in English. Bye,” he said, kissing my cheek in a friendly way. Eek! I walked over to my first class and waited through 1 hour of math before meeting Zayn in English class.
The minute the bell rang, I dashed out the door and got my English books from my locker. “Hey!” Zayn said, putting his arm around me.
“Hey Zayn,” I laughed, acting like this was all normal. “Let’s go, we don’t want to be late,” I urged.
“Okay, I’m coming! Calm down.”
As we reached the classroom, a tall blonde girl approached us. “Annabelle! How nice to see you again,” she said in a mocking tone. She smiled at me sickeningly sweet, but in her eyes, I saw hatred.
“Jasmine. Leave her alone,” Zayn warned. I didn’t even know this girl, yet I knew I hated her. And she hated me just as much.
“I just wanted to say hi. How are you Annabelle? You and Zayn hook up yet?” she replied coolly. I silently slapped her face in my mind. Who was she?
“Jasmine you know we’re just friends,” Zayn said with an emotionless face.
“Oh yeah, that’s right. You’re not good enough for him. I’ll see you later,” Jasmine said, as she strode into the classroom. I was shocked. What had I ever done to get on this girl’s bad side?
“Don’t listen to her. She’s just jealous. And of course you’re good enough for me. Actually, I don’t deserve a girl as good as you.”
“Zayn, I’m fine. I can handle her,” I reassure him. We walk into the classroom and sit down beside each other.
“Okay class, we will be doing our tests now. No talking,” the teacher announced.

“That was one hard test,” Zayn said as we sat down for lunch. A couple of girls met up with us and sat with us. Their names were Delancey and Marissa. I don’t know how I know that, but I do. Although, I recognized their faces from the pictures in my room.
“It wasn’t that hard,” I protested. I had learned about it before I had the whole “new life” thing happen to me, so I knew everything.
“Well it couldn’t have been as hard as our math test! Right, Marissa?” Delancey chirped. She had curly blonde hair, and big brown eyes. She was skinny, but not athletic. She preferred shopping at the mall rather than going to a football game, even if there were hot boys there. She was the fashionista and was obsessed with the latest looks.
“It was hard for you because you didn’t study!” Marissa said. She was like the opposite of Delancey, with light brown hair and blue eyes. She was a straight A student and was involved in a lot of extracurricular activities. She was part of the school newspaper, on the track team, on student council, and in swim club. In addition to that, she helped the school a lot, doing community work.
“Well I never study!” Delancey defended.
“Sorry I’m late guys! I got held up at science because someone spilled the container of cow eyes!” A new girl came and ran to our table. She had straight red hair and green eyes. A name popped into my head when I saw her. Victoria. She was a fun and bubbly girl. She was in drama and acted in a lot of school plays. She was also a good singer and had been in a recording studio before. For some reason, I remember the day she stood in the studio, a bit nervous, but when she started singing, everyone was bobbing their heads and dancing along.
“Tori! Do you think the math test was hard?” Delancey questioned.
“No, not at all, why?” she answered.
“HA! I told you so!” Marissa exclaimed.
“Ladies, ladies, no fighting, there’s enough of me for all of you,” Carter, Zayn’s friend said cheekily as he sat down at our table. I rolled my eyes. Carter had been trying for years to get one of the girls. That was never going to happen. All my friends were too smart to fall for his shallow flirting.
“Come on Carter. Give it up already! You. Will. Never. Get. Any. Of. Us,” Tori spoke to him like he was in preschool. We were all a little annoyed by his endless flirting.
“Yeah Carter, go for one of the girls that are actually popular,” Zayn teased.
“Zayn!” I slapped him lightly on the arm. He laughed. This was my dream. Being best friends with Zayn Malik, being allowed to flirt with him and know him. At the time, I didn’t know how much things could change. I didn’t know how heart breaking this would actually be.
