So at the end of the last chapter I said I would repost ASAP. Clearly that was kind've a lie. And I would like to sincerely apologize to those who showed me their support and gave me feedback, and for a while heard only silence in return. I really do feel bad about that! So I am sorry. And please try to enjoy this chapter anyway.
We reappeared in a white cylinder with a door that slid open as soon as we were fully..... reformed, I guess. When it did, my heart skipped a beat, and I let out a quick gasp before catching myself and covering my mouth with my hand. There was something waiting for us.
So like I said, I don't believe in aliens. But if you mentioned one, I'd picture your classic little green bug-eyed fellow. But that is not what was standing in front of me. Not even close. This was a blue, very tall, wrinkly thing. It had long spindly arms with two elbows on each one. And it's eight long spider's legs never stopped moving, each one shifting around at different times. And the head. It was just bizarre. It looked almost like an upside-down ice cream cone, a half sphere at the bottom, but coming up into a cone. It had six eyes, in a v-formation, and all milky white. It's mouth was the freakiest part, because it opened into three triangle flaps with teeth all up the walls of its mouth. But what made it almost laughable: it was wearing a white lab-coat.
“Two?” it spoke. “The briefing said there should only be one! So who are you?” It was speaking English, but with a very heavy accent , almost German and Southern at the same time. And there were these awful clicking noise that accompanied it's speech.
“Well?” It prompted and I realized that it had asked me a question.
“I'm, uh, I'm...... Ch-Charlotte.” I managed to choke out.
It widened all six of it's eyes in expression that was both terrifying and humorous. I guess it didn't expect me to actually answer. It looked quickly up from me to Danny and spoke in a hushed series of unfamiliar sounds. He still looked slightly dazed, and gave only a small shrug of his shoulders in response.
“You, come with me.” she clicked. Then with a little motion of the head to Danny, she said “You know what to do.” and turned around, and started walking, expecting me to follow. To my dismay, Danny stepped out of the pod and started walking the other way. Away from me.
“NO!” I shrieked. The alien turned around but Danny just kept walking the other direction.
“No!” I yelled again. I started to move after him, but the alien moved like lightening, and held my arm with an iron grip. She started to pull me the other way, and my struggles were useless.
“You don't understand!” I yelled. “He's the whole reason I'm here! And he's the only thing that makes sense, and I love him, and you can't just take me away from him! Please! I'm begging you!” This alien was ridiculously strong, and we had turned a corner.
“Calm down, you ridiculous child.” The alien hissed. “I'm taking you to Shavgnok, and he will know what to do with you.”
I still resisted for a bit, but eventually I gave up. I just walked along, down passages and around corners, wherever she led me. I felt empty, and confused, and mostly scared. I just wanted to go home. To have this not happening.
My pulse was racing and my palms were sweaty, but an unnatural calm filled my head. It felt more like the terror you experience in a dream than a real life or death situation. It was almost as if I could remove myself from the situation, just assess what was happening like it was a daytime TV show or movie.
I keep careful track of where we are moving, hoping that I'll be able to navigate my own way back if I can escape. That is assuming I don't wake up in a couple of minutes. Which I'm sure is what will happen. Obviously.
The creature in the lab coat was very easy to follow, and for the first time I noticed how truly tall the creature guiding me was. It must have been at least eight feet tall, maybe eight and a half which added quite the intimidating effect. It had let go of my arm now that I was calm, and it never looked back to make sure I was following. Just kept scuttling ahead of me.
Finally, it pulled me through a door, and I found myself in a room that was fairly reminiscent of an office. It had a desk, a large blank screen up high, and not much else. And it was all pure white, like everything else in this god damn ship. There was another creature, similar to the one I had been with, but a bit larger. He was sitting behind the desk, the top of which was covered in blinking lights of various colors, and he was studying them intensely.
When we walked in, he looked up from his desk, and I swear he looked surprised. He spoke in a strange, clicking, rattling language. The creature wearing the lab coat replied in the same language. They spoke for about a minute. Then the lab coat creature turned to me.
“Come with me.” It turned and walked out the door. Not knowing what else to do, I followed it.
After a while I built up my courage. “What are you going to do with me?” I asked. The alien didn't turn it's head.
“Return you.” it clicked.
“And Danny?” It paused a minute before replying.
“Him too.”
We walked a little while longer, down endless twists and turns. Finally, we came to a pod similar to the one I arrived in. The alien gestured for me to get inside. Slowly I stepped towards it. But then I turned.
“Where's Danny?” I asked. The thing merely smiled.
“He'll be coming down separately.” Before I had a chance to act, it pushed me into the pod, and the door snapped shut. I pounded on the door, but it was no use. With a hissing sound, a white gas started to fill the pod, and I realized I was very sleepy. Very tired. If they were just going to leave me in here, I might as well sleep, right? Yeah, sleep. So I just put my head against the wall, and let myself slip into unconsciousness.
