Prompt: "I'm homesick for a place that I'm not even sure exists"

***

"I'm homesick for a place that I'm not even sure exists," I sigh.

"I've always dreamed of a place where the trees held extravagant colors. Where the sky always kept the dreamy colors of the evening. The creatures, so lovely and elegant, at peace without a care in the world.

I've always called this dream-like place home. It can't be real, can it? No, such wonder and beauty only exists in the mind. Though, I still feel homesick. I feel as though I need to return to this wonderous place I've never been because it feels as though I belong."

Staring out my window, this conversation with my friend, Sky, goes on as I describe this perfect fantasy world. Though, it's one sided, for I am the only one talking, not giving her an interval to talk.

Suddenly I stop talking, distracted by the scenery before me. The night was approaching, but first the evening sky shows itsself. The pink and orange mixing with the blue, yellow, and red.

Then I gaze more towards the foreground. The Autumn trees with crisp red, orange, yellow, and brown leaves. It all is so exciting. In my mind, I paint some of the brown leaves purple. I paint some of the yellow, blue. And the homesickness grows more fierce. Though, again, I'm not even sure it exists. It's impossible, yet so wonderful.

"Alicia? Are you still there?" My friend questions. But I don't hear her. All I can hear is the music constantly played in my world. Eventually she hangs up.

She texts immediately after; "Hey are you alright? You weren't answering me."

I snap out of my trance and read it. I instantly reply; "Sorry, I saw my world."

"I'm sorry but it's not real." 😯

"It's not possible to miss somewhere you've never been, but I do. It doesn't seem real, but it feels real." 🙁

"Alright call me when you figure it out." 😒😁

I put down my phone and stare outside some more. I suddenly see some leaves swirling in the wind. They're ethereal, magical. They swirl in a perfect circle as if a portal were opening.

I run outside to get a closer look. I see, within the leaves, animals of all shapes and sizes, an unreal evening sky more beautiful than the one I was currently experiencing. I put my arm through to prove that it was in fact a portal. Once it was proven, I step through and am awe-struck. The majestic atmosphere of this world catches me off guard. But this is it. This is the mysterious world I had been homesick for. I feel an instant connection to this world I didn't know even existed prior to this moment.

I begin to walk without even thinking, without even knowing where I'm going. It's like the atmosphere is pulling me along through this magnificent land. I see such precious creatures; some regular, like squirrels and deer, and some with mystical qualities, such as phoenix's and rainbow bears.

Then, someone rests their hand on my shoulder. I don't know who they are but it causes me to stop. I don't turn around right away. I'm too nervous.

"Turn around, please," a feminine voice says.

I do as she says and realize she's a faun. She's gorgeous with shiny, red hair and a short, emerald green dress. Her chocolate skin seemed to melt in the light as she stood before me.

"Are you the ruler of this world?" I ask, while bowing just in case.

She chuckles, "Well, for the time being. I am Shamiin. I'm looking after this land until the queen returns. She's been gone for years and all her subjects deeply miss her." She looks away with a sad expression. I can tell she was greatly loved. "Welcome to Oxedore."
