Chapter One: Time

; the indefinite continued progress of existence and events in the past, present, and future regarded as a whole.

I'm a good kid. Always was. My first day of college was my favorite. I didn't do shit. Went to class, went back to my dorm, studied and went to bed. It was like time had already maneuvered itself into a plain boring life. I should have fucking loved it right? Wish I did.

"Hey," my roommate Alice squeaked.

"Morning,"

"So Pike's having a party tonight for Syllabus Week. You're pretty much the only person I know on campus, so will you come with?" No.

"Yeah, sure. Quick question though...What's Pike?"

"Pi Kappa Alpha. Found out it's like KU's top fraternity and the guys throw huge parties for syllabus week because it's right before all the newbies start their pledge ship," Gotcha. I smiled and we said our goodbyes.

Once again class could not have went slower. I found myself doodling my name in bubble letters all over my paper. I bit my lip as I looked around the lecture hall. Definitely not high school. There was at least 300 other kids surrounding me. Why did I sit in the middle? I'm gonna throw up.

"You okay little red?" My eyes darted to the boy and at my phone. Class was over.

"Hey! What's your deal?" Dammit. I couldn't out run him.

"Sorry I didn't mean to ignore you, I just need to get back to my dorm,"

"What's the rush?" Our eyes finally held contact, he wasn't letting me break it.

"Just a little claustrophobic I'll sleep it off," good job Dylan. Play it cool.

"Hm. Well My name's Brennen Taylor. And you're..." shit.

"Dylan...uh O'Reilly," real smooth.

"Well 'Dylan uh O'Reilly', have a nice rest," And there goes my first encounter with the male species, and wish my talking skills, probably the last.

I got back to the dorm quickly, trying to shake off the strange feeling in my stomach from speaking with the boy. Once I entered my room I found Alice sleeping just as I had left her this morning. Does she not have class on Tuesdays? College is so weird. I took off my shoes and shorts and was left in a t-shirt and underwear, of course. I tied my hair back into a braid and laid down. I was too tired to think about how uncomfortable to dorm room beds were and drifted into a deep slumber.

My eyes opened to the sound of music filling the room. I looked to see Alice beginning her long process of getting ready. Her flat iron and curler were both on. Can't decide? Just double the chances of burning down our residential hall why don't you! Eyes still half shut, I pulled myself onto my elbows and turned on my laptop. Facebook notification?

Brennen Taylor added you as a friend

"Oh good you're awake! You should probably start getting ready. I want to get there at ten, so you have like two hours," Her voice made my jump, but I nodded and sat up, moving myself to my desk with my computer. I decided to accept the friend request solely on my curious mind wanting to look through his photos.

"Is that your boyfriend?" What?

"Huh? Oh. No just a guy I met in class today,"

"He's gorgeous," She smiled and went back to creating blonde spirals with her hair.

Alice Vanderbilt. Absolutely breathtaking. Her tall figure stretched her into looking like a supermodel. Slim figure with emerald green eyes and platinum blonde locks to go with it. A human barbie doll to say the least. Me on the other hand..eh. I've got some dark auburn hair (looks redder in the sun I promise) and hazel eyes to go with my 5'3 shrimp body. I'm not ugly, but I sure as hell was not Alice. We met on the University of Kansas' Facebook Page. Her previous roommate decided on Arizona State last minute so poor Alice got stuck with me.

"Oh! I forgot to ask you, are you planning on rushing next week?" Rushing? Me? I pointed to myself and lowered my eyebrows at her.

"Yes you! It would be so much fun! Think about all the friendships you'll make. Plus I heard after syllabus week, frats only invite sorority girls into their parties," Jeez.

"I don't really think I'm a sorority girl. What if they don't like me?" She gave me a look of sadness.

"Oh sweetheart don't be so hard on yourself. Not everyone need to be in a top house. I heard Kappa Delta will take pretty much anyone so at least you know you'll get a bid from them!" I nodded once more at what I thought was advice. Or an insult. Still not sure.

I looked at the clock and we were planned to leave at ten. It was now 9:45. Shit. I ran my fingers through my hair. Shit! Natural it is. My make-up made up for my half waved hair. Dark eyeshadow always made me look older so I went for as much of a smokey eye as my cosmetic talents allowed. I topped it off with a few layers of mascara and got up to change into another outfit. I went with a black off the shoulder top that cut off cut below my belly button and a pair of high waisted black ripped jeans with my white Adidas. It was pretty much what I was used to wearing to high school parties. Nothing too crazy.

"Okay! Ready to g- OH! Holy shit you look awesome babe!"

"Thanks Alice, so do you," A lot better than me to say the least. She was wearing a pair of low rise light jeans and a black top that had a deep cut in the front. I reminded myself to buy one similar to it. She topped it off with high top white converse. How can someone still look like a super model in a pair of sneakers?

We gathered all of our essentials and took one last look at ourselves before heading to Greek Town.
