Unedited

After that my mother and I paid for brunch and left the restaurant we decided it was finally time to go home. Especially since I was tired as hell.

She hasn't told me where we live and if it was a house or an apartment. She's really left me hanging. She's hiding something I know it. She has that determined face on. I didn't know if I should be excited or scared or both.

"Hey, mom are you going to tell me where we're going yet?" I questioned while we waited in traffic.

"Oh why don't you just wait and see," she said plainly. "You might even like the surprise."

O.k. What do I say to that? I don't know if she knows this yet but I'm not the most social person.

After finally getting out of traffic. Which if I do say so myself is the most annoying thing on the planet. We pulled up to a really nice looking building. It's was at least 40 stories tall, it was a dark space grey, and had windows everywhere.

We pulled down into the parking garage, parked, and got out the car.

My mother and I had some joe realized I liked the quiet and hadn't said a thing for a while. Although I could see her from the corner of my eye that she was watching me. I could see the hope in her eyes as we got on the elevator that she wanted me to talk.

I really did want to talk but I thought best of it, because what would I say. I've really only ever talked to 3 people and got close to them and one of those people hurt me and I wasn't ready to be hurt again not yet.

The elevator dinged and opened up to a grey and beige penthouse. It's wasn't too big or too small from what I could see it was just right. My Goldilocks.

"Mom this place is amazing. How can you afford this place?" I question. I didn't think she could afford this.

"Well... you see," she began. "I'm actually married and he's pretty well off as you can see." She says gesturing towards the really nice looking living room.

"Also my husband is here somewhere around here," looking around for him.

As she says that a man that also looks about 27 walks in. He was at least 6'5 and had broad shoulders that made him look like he worked out on a daily. He had dirty blonde hair and these hazel eyes. When he walked into the room it was like he had this aura that made him seem in charge, like he knew what he was doing. He came and stood next to my mom and they were like the golden couple.

They looked perfect together... and that kinda scared me. Perfect isn't always what you think it is.

After the introduction to my mother's husband, James Manning-well, they showed around. They supposedly saved the best for last.

"So I know that we weren't really prepared for you coming to stay for so long, but we rearranged some things and we have a room for you now." My mother told me while looking at my stepdad.

We were walking up the stairs and we finally got to the very top (the 3rd floor), the 2nd floor had my mom and stepdad's room, and there was a loft that was almost the size of the dining room. It was black and white with an accent wall of different colored tiles, where the bed. My bed rested against. I slowly walked up to it and sat down slowly.

"Wow. Just wow. It's amazing."

I just couldn't stop looking around the room. There was a vanity that had lights all around it. Something that my mother clearly put in here. As I was looking around, my mother was staring at me in awe.

I stood up and began walking around again and I go and sit at my vanity. As I'm looking in the mirror I don't see any resemblance to my mother, because I have darkish light brown hair, with just regular plain brown eyes. I have naturally tanned skin with having a bit of a latina decent. In comparison to my mothers platinum blonde hair and dazzling greenish blue eyes.

"Mom, I can't thank you and James enough, for everything," I say as I go over to give them a hug.

"Well, this isn't all of the room, go and look inside that door next to your vanity," she says while pointing to the area by my vanity.

I go and open the door, and it opens up to be a walk-in closet with some other room attached. The closet is well organized, with color coating and designated areas for each piece of clothing. Then there were the shoes. how did it fit so many in one room I don't know but it felt like I would never run out of them. I was never really a clothes and shoe person, but now I could be if I wanted to be.

I walked over to the door and walked into a bathroom. "Is this just for me?" I asked as I looked over to see them both nodding there heads yes.

"I can't believe you guys did this all for me." I was in shock, complete and utter shock. This was one of the nicest things anyone have ever done for me.

"Well James and I will just let you settle in for a bit and whenever you're ready we can go and get dinner, we have something to talk to you about, but later," she says while they both walk out the door of my loft-like bedroom.

I walk out into my room and flop onto the bed. Man is this comfortable. I take out my phone, which I had completely forgotten about since I got off the plane. I have 13 missed calls, from my dad, Amira, Aaliyah, and one from an Unkown number. They left a message so I press play and listen to it.

"So, you think you can run away from me now don't you... well it's not that easy. When I find you, you're gonna regret your decision. I hope you know that your actions have consequences." the voice pauses giving me a chill. "Just wait until I find you Isa. Just wait."

And with that, the line goes dead. I gulp in the realization that I can't let Him find me not again, not ever.
