"Happy birthday!" sang out my friends as we sat around a table in the corner of South Street Grill. Today is my 16th birthday, and today has been great! Strangers began to stare at us just to see what the loudness was about, this made me feel uncomfortable ( not that i already was). The waiter came by our table with our check, but this waiter didn't look like the one that served us before. Along with it we noticed a neatly folded piece of paper. At first we were confused but then my friend, Hannah, opened it. It read, "Get out now." We began to worry and look out for that waiter so we may ask that if this is for us. He was gone.
-10 hours earlier-
"Beep!Beep!Beep!" sounded my alarm clock. I rolled over to snooze it when I noticed that it said, Saturday, August 26, 2017. My mom came through my lavender colored bedroom door. "HAPPY BIRTHDAY May" she was, holding a stack of pancakes topped with a candle and some delicious whipped cream. "Make a wish, this is going to be the best birthday ever, I promise." I knew this was a promise she will keep, just like all of the others she has made and succeeded in. I have this thing where I can trust people way too easily, although this isn't very useful, it sure does come in handy when the result is going to be wonderful ( just like today).
After i finished my breakfast in bed, i walked down stairs. Along they way my brother, Emerson stopped me, " Two more weeks until school." he snorted. He has been doing this since the beginning of summer, a count down 'til school starts again. I am not surprised that he didn't say 'happy birthday' to me, nor does he even act his age. Hes two years younger then me and he still sleeps with Mr.Jaws ( a shark stuffed animal), I grew out of that habit when i was six years old.
I finally make it to our living room to sit on our dark grey leather couch. You could hear it crumple when i begin to sit on it. As a tradition, the birthday girl/boy gets to open their present right in the morning after their breakfast in bed. Then we video chat our dad who is away at work. My dad Works at an engineering company in Canada. It was only him that went at the time because it was going to be for a month that he stays their, until he got promoted. We didn't make the move because my mom already had a well paying job, and she didn't want to hit the reset button on our lives.
My mom comes in with a little present and a more bigger one. She hands them to me and i begin to open them. The smaller one is a charm bracelet and the bigger one is a new pair of boots, both presents are exactly what i wanted.
Once my mom got some awkward birthday pictures from me she leaves as i begin to watch some TV. Soon later my friends call me to see if i was up to going out to eat tonight for my birthday, and of course i agreed!
Noon came and the three of us, my mom, brother and I went out for lunch at my favorite restaurant. My brother requested to our waiter if they could do that awkward birthday song, I hate it when they sing to you on your birthday, which is why my brother requested it. When we were finished, i got to do some birthday shopping with my grandma.
My and grandma went to the near by mall and i got a few clothing items such as, a nice new top, leggings, and a cool jacket. "How could my day get even better?" i thought.
When we reached home I found out that nobody was home. Lights were out, and nothing had been touched since we left. I reached over to flip the light switch and my whole family popped up. "Surprise!" they shouted.
I opened a few more presents and ate some cake that said, "Happy 16th birthday May" The day was going perfect. The cake was vanilla with strawberry icing, my favorite. After everyone left i went up to my room and got ready to meet my friends. I curled my hair, put on some clean clothes that didn't have strawberry frosting on them, and put on my new charm bracelet. I looked in my mirror and said, " I trust you mom, today IS going to be perfect."
My friends arrived at my door and then we left.

A man in a black hoodie walked out of the restaurant once we began looking. The man looked as if he were in a hurry. We all were debating if we should stay here in public or leave before it may get worse.
We decided to leave.
