After hanging up I stared at my screen before I realized miles still stood close by.
"You okay?" He took a step closer.
"I'm peachy." I snapped at him, regretting the way I made it sound.
I closed my eyes taking a few breaths.
"Look I'm sorry-"
"No I understand." He chuckled.
"I'm not sure you do Miles." I forced a laugh out looking around, seeing nothing but woods.
"I left everything, just for a new beginning I didn't even want."
"You didn't want to move?"
"Not really, yet it's what's best for me."
An emotion flashed in his eyes going blank before you could tell what it was.
"Sorry to hear that kitten." He cleared his throat.
"Do you know where a club is in town?" I rushed out.
"Why the club?"
"So I can drink my sorrows away, and dance my night away." I rolled my eyes. "Because I want to go to the club."
"Look kitten, this isn't like your home town."
"I didn't already know that."
"Look, just stay tonight. I can introduce you to some people."
I stayed quiet. I'd always get a drink if I wasn't having the greatest day, or if something was bothering me. I could control myself, I just didn't want to. I wanted to feel happy again, no care, just hoping the horrible feeling would go away if I drank; most of the time it did, it's just when it didn't.. I kept drinking until I couldn't even remember the night.
"It'll be fun, and if you don't enjoy it, I'll try to figure something out."
"What, is it going to be the entire town?" I cringed at the thought.
"No, just some friends from school." He laughed.
"Yeah sure." I looked at the woods. I'd made a mental note to take a walk through them sometime.
"So how about another pool game?"
I looked up seeing him smirking.
"You're gonna lose."
He shook his head, "never."
<<>><<>>
"So you're just gonna make it big, and leave it all night."
"That is what a bonfire is." He laughed taking the wood from my arms.
"I know what one is, but the ones I've been to have been way smaller than this."
"Which is why you need to learn how the real way it's done."
"It's so big you can feel the heat miles away."
He laughed, shaking his head. I watched his back muscles flex and un flex as he threw the wood into the pile.
I jumped hearing a stick break in the woods. Miles turned his head, focusing on the woods. He stayed still, as I grew closer to him.
"Is someone in the woods?" I kept my voice low.
He brought his hand back, touching my arms as he did. I wanted to pull away, feelings those chills like the last few times, but I felt safe.
"No, must be a deer or something." He never made eye contact with me.
Yeah or something, I replayed in my mind. Well what else could it be?
Before long people began to fill the yard, making their own conversations, some coming up to talk to Miles.
I felt out of place, wishing I was back home or my friends were here.
"Relax." I jumped at Miles closeness. His warm breath fanned over my neck. His arms found their way around my waist, one hand holding a blue solo cup.
"You're drunk."
"Not drunk, just tipsy." He placed a sloppy kiss on my shoulder.
"You smell good, you know that kitten?"
I lowered my head, not wanting anyone to see the blush I now had.
"You do know my name is Kara." I laughed.
"Kitten for me." He started to nibble on my ear lobe.
"Miles." I laughed before I heard someone clear their throat.
My head shot up seeing three girls stand close to each other, giving me the glare. I froze making Miles stop.
"Look at this. New girl all over my boyfriend. I love how you take advantage over him when he's drunk." She ripped his arms off of me making his eyes shoot open.
"Jess." He put distances between us, making my stomach drop.
She pulled him into a kiss, making me turn my head.
I wrapped my arms around myself, filling the decrease in the air. I took a quick look at miles and Jess.
Before they broke from the kiss I headed towards the dark woods. Wanting to get away from here, I'd go home but no one was home and I didn't have a key.
I quickly looked back towards the party, hoping no one was watching me. Seeing no one was I made my way into the woods.
Noticing the sound from the party was fading I kept going, feeling a calmness.
Snap!
I jumped at the sound of a stick snapping close behind me.
Looking over my shoulder I kept walking, taking quicker steps I kept looking straight telling myself it was all in my head.
Maybe it was a deer. It had to be a deer. They live in the woods, so it was a deer.
I told myself. Realizing it began to get darker by the second I made myself turn around, letting a scream out as I felt myself fall to the ground.
