Chapter 7
In the tallest towers where only the purest of Alpha believers are allowed to live there emerged a thought. It was born of fear and spread by ambition but only amongst whispers. It was a sinister plot that no person of moral base would condone; but humanity never outweighs drastic measures when fear tips the scales.
Gideon fell to the ground with a thud, Asa landing softly behind him.
"We have to go back, take me back, I have to save Abel."
Asa turned her gaze upwards, her face unreadable as Gideon sobs filled the silence between them, nearly masking the soft steps of the intruder.
"Asa, what are you doing?"
Gideon looked up through his tears towards the soft voice, the wings still spread wide on the half dressed frame looking over them, his strong face staring down with a mixture of anger and disappointment.
"I did what needed to be done." Asa jumped to her feet, nearly missing the ground as she turned and floated away from her accuser.
"We are not supposed to meddle in the affairs of humans."
"I am not meddling."
"We are here simply to observe."
"Observe the destruction?"
"If that is the outcome they created then we cannot keep them from their fate."
"We can't or we won't Zura? I can't sit by and watch them destroy each other."
Zura sighed, his brown wings descending back into his body as he held his forehead, seemingly in pain. As if suddenly aware of Gideon's presence, he turned the full force of his powerful gaze on the now silent young man. "Is this the one you were looking for?"
"Yes."
"And the mate?"
"I have not located them yet."
"Mate?" Gideon had been following the conversation the best he could, but every word spoken by the new guardian made him feel more and more lost.
"You haven't told him?"
"No, I have tried to enlighten him but he is being sought after by other humans."
"So they know about him?"
"I suspect that whoever is initiating the searches knows, but I have no reason to suspect the rest know."
"Know what?" Gideon was getting increasingly agitated as they spoke about him. "Who are you?"
"I had no idea Beacons could be so difficult. Does the boy speak to you this disrespectful as well Asa?"
"I'm not a boy so stop addressing me as one." Gideon turned his anger towards Asa, "And what does mean? What's a beacon?"
Asa stepped forward, she smiled at Gideon, but it was in turmoil with her mood. She raised her hand to his forehead and suddenly he was in void where only light and blackness existed.
"Where am I?" He knew not where to run, or even to take a step where there was nothing below him and nothing above. Asa's voice quietly penetrated Gideon's ears as an image of pure phantom appeared before him.
"Your God is the spirit of this very planet, a life force made up of every level of its breath, Earth, Space, and Sky. It roamed the barren Earth alone, master of all but creator of nothing. Loneliness weighed on them so heavily that eventually the Spirit known ripped in half, creating two souls from one."
