Hoseok met them at the entrance when they returned to the hangar, Seokjin a few feet behind him.
"Hey kid." he growled, and Jungkook could only assume he was addressing him.
"Yes?"
Seokjin approached him in three, drawn out steps, and grabbed the collar of his shirt tightly. Jungkook gulped as his feet lifted off the ground, and Seokjin's other hand wrapped tightly around his neck.
"You messed up, Bunny." He growled and approached his face to Jungkook's. "The police were signalled, and they're searching the entire town for 'a 5 foot nine male with a rabbit mask and black hair.' Sounds familiar, huh?" he let go of Jungkook suddenly and he crumpled to the ground, gun falling out of his pocket and skidding to a stop at Seokjin's feet. He knew better than to say anything.
Seokjin spun on his heel and began walking slowly away from him.
"We're going. Pack up your crap, all for you. You might be an idiot, kid, but you're useful sometimes, so you're coming with us."
"And where exactly are we going, Jinnie?" Jimin piped up from the back of the room. He received no other answer than a steely glare and a gesture to clear out. Which he did, not before smiling widely and blowing a kiss in Seokjin's direction.
Jungkook picked himself up off the floor and pocketed his gun, turning to face Yoongi and Hoseok.
"Hey Bunny. You okay?" Hoseok asked, placing a hand on his arm.
"Yeah. Just a little shaken up. And... I know I didn't really try to be discreet, but... ah I really messed up huh?"
Hoseok shook his head.
"No, it's fine. Not like it hasn't happened before, anyway. Hey Yoongs, remember-"
"No, no, don't even go there."
Jungkook chuckled.
"Come on, tell me. Yoongi never said he screwed up a mission before."
Yoongi looked down and shook his head.
"Yeah, well, I have. I... left my gun on the hall table once... and only realised after I'd told the guy I was gonna kill him. Let's just say... I spent a while behind bars."
Jungkook gawked at him.
"When was this?!"
"My second mission. About... eight years ago. Ugh... I can't believe I was so stupid. Seokjin wouldn't talk to me for a month."
"You were in Bangtan at fifteen?"
Yoongi nodded.
"My parents..."
He looked down at the ground and his lip began trembling slightly.
"... Well, yes, I was. In fact, I started here three days before my fifteenth birthday. To put it simply, I was in your place once, Bunny. Only three years earlier."
No one said anything else as they made their way out of the old hangar, and Yoongi continued looking down guiltily. Jungkook slung an arm around his shoulders, relishing the feeling of a small, warm body pressed against his side.
"So... I guess this is where we part ways." Hoseok murmured as they reached the roadside, and Jungkook nodded.
"Yeah. We'll meet back here in..." as if on call his phone vibrated, and a message from Seokjin appeared on the screen. Meet back at the base in 15. Take all you need, we won't be coming back. He sighed and gripped Yoongi tighter.
"C'mon. Let's go."
The older man nodded, and they began walking down a sidestreet and towards the dorm rooms. It would take a while, but taking a taxi would be way too risky at this point. Jungkook didn't even bother taking the mask off. People would see him, but too bad for them.
Yoongi shyly wrapped an arm around the younger boy's waist, not daring to look him in the eye.
He might be twenty-three, but he was the most insecure and delicate person Jungkook had ever met. How he managed to work as a mobster, he honestly didn't have a clue.
Yoongi lived just beside Jungkook's school, in a hotel room. He didn't have a real home, just moved from hotel to hotel every few months. It was probably illegal, but wasn't everything he did?
The two of them met back up on the street after five minutes, one bag each and gloomy looks on their faces.
"You good?" Jungkook asked, offering his hand. Yoongi took it almost desperately and nodded.
"Yeah. I just... we really are never coming back, huh?" he murmured, fake grin ruining his thin lips.
"I'm sorry... it was my fault. I never thought... ahh I messed up so bad." he never thought. That was the problem, wasn't it. All that was in his head was the exhilarating pre-kill high, not that a whole bunch of people were watching as he went to go kill someone. Because his evil rabbit mask is totally not suspicious.
The hangar cam into view after about forty-five minutes, and a fuming Seokjin was waiting for them beside a black limo.
"You were supposed to be here two hours ago!" he seethed.
"Yeah well, we had to walk because I have no cash."
Seokjin scoffed and gestured to the limousine.
"Get in. And be quiet, I honestly don't feel like dealing with all of you now."
Jungkook nodded and tugged Yoongi into the vehicle. Hoseok was already there, a worried expression on his face. It lightened as soon as he saw the other two, and he shuffled over on the leather seat to give them room.
There were no seatbelts, and Jungkook found himself firmly squashed up against Yoongi as the car gyrated violently at each turn. The older man just looked up at him and smiled.
The car journey would take a couple of days, Seokjin told them. They were going to Seoul, where they would meet up with the rest of Bangtan and stay undercover for a few months, but would be staying overnight in a small countryside town. He also made a point that they weren't going to be using many main roads, so instead of 5 hours of driving it would be 7. Jungkook groaned. Seokjin scowled.
It was nearing 8 in the evening when the car pulled to a sudden stop.
"We're here." Seokjin informed them and stepped out of the car, closely followed by Jimin. Jungkook looked at the two boys next to him in turn, shrugged, and followed Yoongi out of the vehicle into the dark night.
The air was cool and fresh, cold wind whipping at his ankles and neck. He grasped Yoongi's hand and smiled slightly at the warm palm pressed in his own, curling his fingers around the older man's.
The hostel was quite old and looked cozy enough, the light of a fireplace flickering in its small windows. Jungkook shivered at a sudden gust of wind, and began walking hastily towards the building. Seokjin pushed the door open in front of him and sashayed over to the front desk, asking for three rooms and and taking all corresponding pairs of keys.
"Here. Don't lose it." he told Jungkook, handing him a pair and one to Hoseok, before walking off down the hallway and up a flight of stairs. All four of them followed him slowly, splitting in two groups and entering their respectful rooms.
As soon as the door was safely locked behind him, Jungkook collapsed onto one of the beds and closed his eyes. Yoongi did the same and pretty soon they were both sound asleep, only the sounds of their breathing breaking the heavy silence in the room.
