It pierced my ears. The shrill noise seemed like it lasted eternity. Finally, the scream died down and I shook my head. The scream was female, I deducted, and it was too high pitched for my mother. Oh noO! “ELLIE!!"I screamed. My brain stopped working and it was all adrenaline from there.
I dashed to the bathroom and grabbed a bucket from under the sink. The knob of the sink was slippery from all the sweat that was on my hands. I quickly wiped my hands on my shirt and cranked the knob again. The water came flowing out and the bucket was full within seconds. I can't let my sister die! I was determined to get to her.
My hands, burning on the handle, flung the door open. The fire greeted me with enthusiasm. I splashed some water on it and quickly ran through it. Surrounded by fire, I was now biding on time. Quickly, I threw some water on the flames in front of me and dashed throught it. I repeated this fashion, getting down the stairs. My feet finally felt the landing. It felt like my skin was being melted off.
••••••
The door was jammed, and I needed to get in there. I heard her shriek. The door still wouldn't budge, even after I threw my body at the thing. I had ran out of water and the fire was gaining up on me. Everywhere it went, the carpet blackened and shriveled behind the fire. I presumed the same thing would happen to me. “ELLIE! CAN YOU HEAR ME?" I screamed over the roar of the flames. In response, I heard a barely autible ‘Yes'.
“OKAY, ELLES, ARE YOU HURT?"
“Uh-huh, Deni, my arm hurt."
“ELLES, HOW BADLY DOES IT HURT?"
“Really bad. It red and purple and black."
“IS THE FIRE TOO HOT?"
“Yes. It too close to me. I don't like it."
I sighed.
I guess we're both gonna die.
