Prologue

You were a Resistance fighter.

I mean, you kinda had no choice.

Your parents were killed when you were little. The First Order had destroyed your small village on some planet in the outer rim, they said it was. You, of course, don't remember any of it. Not that you'd want to.

Your parents were probably killed or taken hostage. Or taken hostage....THEN killed. You had always hoped they were out there, though.

Members of the Resistance came to the site to salvage what was potentially left of the newly demolished town. That's when they found you, hiding in a small box, remains of what was your small, cozy home covering you. You were covered in dried blood and ashes, crying for your parents. The Fighters were actually pretty shocked, as there were no traces of life elsewhere, and seeing your condition, they were surprised you survived.

They took you in, and three year old you had a new life. It wasn't much grander than the previous one you had merely four days ago, but it was definitely better.

You didn't really have a glorious life. Just a commitment. Your commitment wasn't chosen as much as it was owed. No burning passions.

Okay, you REALLY wanted to be a pilot.

You really really really wanted to be. In fact, you snuck out of your room one night when you were about 8 to go fly an X-Wing. You had read a couple of flight manuals from the library, so, it should have been relatively easy. (ha. you thought)

You started it up, feeling confident. The red and green lights were flickering as you thought they were supposed to. You flipped a few more switches for good measure. You grabbed the controls faster than typical comfort would allow. You slowly closed your eyes. You imagined yourself flying. The wind your ally, the clouds mere shapes down below...

You must have been imagining too long, because you could see an actual pilot climb on to the X-wing.

"Do you have permission to be up here?"

"Dammit, Poe. I was in the zone."

"Hey. Watch your tongue."

"Sorry."

You had kinda felt embarrassed. After all, you had just gotten caught. You never had liked that feeling. Especially when it involved Poe.

"You don't even have a helmet. Let alone anything else. You should at least think before you do something stupid."

You remembered you hadn't thought to grab a suit or anything before you jumped in the X-Wing. You were just too excited. Not that any of the suits would've fit your small frame anyway.

"y/n. Get out. Now."

His voice was stern, but you hadn't cared. You guys were really close friends. Well..maybe just normal friends. Okay, actually you weren't friends at all, but you got in trouble often so he saw you a LOT. So yeah. Really close friends.

As you hopped out of the massive X-Wing, Poe moved into the cockpit rather flustered and switched some levers back to their previous state.

You, defeated, began in the direction of the barracks. You glanced back at the launch bay, only to meet Poe's eyes.

"Don't even think about it, y/n."

"I--I wasn't."

You slowly trudged back to your room and plopped down on your bed. You looked at the small clock on your nightstand.

"1:00 am. Wow. I'm going to bed early."

You stared at the ceiling, counting the bolts for the millionth time.

Is life ever gonna be different?

You thought a moment. Is this how you were going to spend the rest of your life? Is this even what you wanted? You didn't even get to decide.

I didn't sign up for this, but I can't leave. I don't have anywhere to go. I'm alone

Nothing's gonna be any different.

That was a long time ago, anyways. Now you're older. Now you're more mature.

Well..one of those things are true.

Sooooo. This is my first FanFiction. This is sort of a prologue and won't actually be the length of each chapter. I apologize. My writing skills are clearly lacking, at least in the imagery area. I already know where this story is going, but I hope you guys'll tag along. Leave Feedback...kthx.
