Emma sprinted through the door. Wincing at the sudden harsh numbness passing over her as the icy winter night air enveloped her body. She let the unencrypted pressure behind her watering eyes free and tears poured out like rivers. She had not cried in front of her dad not since she was eight. Especially not tonight she would never give him the satisfaction of winning. Not now. Not ever. As Emma turned down the path she was enclosed in complete darkness. The lights that surrounded the town by night didn't reach the cold dark water of the Murray river. Emma driven mad by heart break and hate tore down the path completely blinded by the threats of running with not a slither of light to guide her.

Emma stumbled into a clearing her face drenched with hot, salty tears. Kneeling to catch her breath Emma herd a loud irritated shout that cut through the air like a gun shot. Bolting to her feat Emma started running again her breath sounding like howling wind thrashing roughly at deranged trees. As Emma neared the water it became unbearably cold. Hugging her shaking hands to her racing heart, she carried on.
