You giggled to your self as you watched the host of the house party storm out his front door, fuming. He never changed, and neither did his parties. Kevin always threw these parties, and everyone always came. But every time he threw one, it always ended in him getting mad at someone or upset that something didn't go as planned and then he stormed off away from people. Kevin was just too blinded by his need for perfection that he didn't realize that everyone came back to his parties because they were fun. Not because of his "show stopper" he always had planned. Everyone genuinely had a blast with their friends just talking and dancing, sometimes swimming and drinking on occasion. You yourself had friends that would go for the good time, and you would hang around them while you were there. But in all honesty, you went to be around Kevin. You had known him for years now, and you always thought he was cute, and his mean personality interested you. It kept you interested in him, but you two hardly talked anymore. You watched him storm out with a slam of his front door and no one else even took note of it but you. No one really cared because no one came to these parties for him.
The friends you had came here with noticed you staring at the door. "Hey, you okay?" "Yeah what are you looking at?" You were brought back to earth by their questions and turned back to them, knowing that you should excuse yourself. "Hold on guys, I need to step outside for bit." You excused before walking out, ignoring them as they asked why and objected. You opened the front door and closed it behind you, looking for your old friend. You found him sitting on the steps in front of his house. You couldn't see him well through the dark of night, but as your eyes adjusted, you noticed he was hugging himself like he was cold, and his hair that was normally poofed up was down and in a mess. It was obvious that he was soaked in water
"Did you get thrown in the pool?" You asked before sitting next to him. He quickly rubbed his face, like he had been crying. Honestly, you wouldn't be surprised if he had been. This is something he would cry over. "Pssh- no." He played off, looking away from you. "So you fell in, then." He didn't reply, you just heard him sniffle. "Hey, be honest." He asked after a silence passed. "About?" "Did this party suck or is it just me?" You laughed. You couldn't believe he just asked that. "Your parties never suck, Kevin. You just try too hard." "Really?" "Yes. Hate to break it to you but, people don't come to your parties for you and your main events or whatever. They come to enjoy themselves." "Because that really made me feel better." He said sarcastically. "It would have if you weren't so selfish." A beat of silence passed between you two again. You sighed.
"How exactly did you fall in the pool?" "You didn't see?" "No, I was inside." "Okay well. Were you at that party Sour Cream threw a while back where that...girl showed up but she was actually two kids like stuck together?" "Yes, I saw you hitting on her." "Okay well everyone loves her so I thought, if you got those kids to become Stevonnie again that this party would be unforgettable but I guess they were mad at each other or something, so I helped them make up so that Stevonnie would show up but instead, they both just hoped onto their weird dog thing that walks on water so when I tried to follow it, it lead me right into the pool and here I am." "Wait is that what that lion going through that white portal was?!" "Yes!" "Kevin oh my gosh!" "What?!" "You're so set on what you want that you don't even realized what happened! Kevin, a pink lion just walked on water and created a portal and then jumped through it with two kids on its back, and you're still upset that you didn't get your little party guest. You wanted something memorable and you got it." Kevin went silent and looked up at you. "Really?" "Yes." You said with a slow nod. He really could be such a dunce. "The whole house went silent in amazement when that happened, I don't think anyone will forget it anytime soon." He looked away from you again, staring at his feet on the stair below.
"Are you gonna dry off and go back in?" You asked before straightening your legs out over the steps below you and putting your hands behind you for support, trying to find a more comfortable position on the hard cement. "Probably not. You just said that no one even comes to my parties for me so why bother." You looked at him as he spoke, taking in the features of his profile, he looked kinda cute with messy wet hair. "I do." You admitted, still looking at him. He looked over at you. "What? No you don't. You don't even talk to me at these, you hang with your friends." "Because you've acted like I don't exist for a year now." "I never forgot about you though." "Okay but between chasing Sabina around and making sure your reputation around town stays, you distanced yourself." "Don't talk about her." He said harshly, looking away from you. "It's true." "Well why would you even care?" "About Sabina?" "That and just, me. Why would you care if we stayed friends or not?" "Because I actually enjoy your company, unlike her. That's why you got your heart broken, you chase the ones that what nothing to do with you." "I chase the one's that interest me." "Eventually you're going to have to settle for what you can get. 'Can't always get what we want, you should know."
Kevin stayed silent and thought to himself for a moment. You had always been on his list of possibilities, but then again, so was every girl he had met. He looked up at you again, you turned to face him when you saw movement from the corner of your eye. "If you could just, get over yourself and your picture perfect scenarios a bit, you'd see a girl that actually wants to be with you." "...what are you trying to say?" He asked quietly, he had a feeling you were trying to lead him to a conclusion, which a part if you was. You broke the eye contact with him and bit the inside of your cheek bashfully. You didn't want him to catch on so fast. You looked forward again before admitting what had been on your mind for a while.
"People would think I'm crazy, but I always liked you." You admitted, your heart started pounding in your chest when he didn't respond. "Look, I always found you attractive. And maybe it's just because I haven't talked to you like this in a long time but, I really thought of you as more than a friend since we met. And I never stopped even over this past year. Even when we didn't talk to each other." You rambled, trying to cover yourself. When he stayed silent again, you were thinking about just leaving. It made you want to hide. "Well are you gonna say something or are you just gonna make me look dumb?" You asked, whipping your head around to face him. He looked utterly shocked, like he didn't know what to say or do. "You don't mean that." "What if I do." "I wouldn't believe you." "...what, do I have to make you believe? 'Prove it to you?" You asked after a beat of silence. You sat up off your hands and pulled your legs in and turning your whole body to face him in one swift motion. Kevin pushed his wet bangs out of his face, getting a better look at you. "Eh," he sounded shrugging. "I should just believe you. I just...I just don't want to." "Why?" "I would feel dumb, for not noticing." "What, can you read every girl you meet now?" "Normally." You laughed a bit. "Guess I'm hard to read then." You both looked at each other and your eyes looked down at his lips before shifting back to him, giving him the hint. But he smacked is forehead and looked away before any contact was made. "Jeez I'm stupid! I always had you in the back of my mind! I just, I honestly thought I may be too good for you," you laughed a bit. He always thought too highly of himself. "Well you were wrong." "Who told you that?" He said with a cartoon like smirk. "Oh shut it! That doesn't matter now." His indirect confession giving you a burst of confidence which you acted upon by reaching around him and scooting closer before pulling his wet shoulder towards you. Your other hand resting on the side of his neck.
"Go ahead, prove it." He purred before you smiled and landed your lips on his. He kissed you back immediately. He even reached over and grabbed your legs, picking them up and laying them across his lap, making you pull away to giggle. "I believe you, babe." He said before taking your lips again, focusing on your bottom lip before pulling away for a split second to tilt his head for more access. The hand that was on your neck slid into his wet hair and played with his locks as he took the chance to deepen the kiss. Licking at your lips and you parted them for him.
Kevin's hand swooped behind your back when you started leaning back from the amount of force he was putting behind the kiss. If he hadn't been holding you up, you know he would have been on top of you by now.
Before anything could be taken any further, the hum of the music coming from the house behind you gained clarity and you heard a familiar voice shout your name. Both of you pulled away from each other and turned to look at front door of the house that only a few feet away. The friends you had come with had came looking for you just at the (not so) perfect time. The two of them looked completely shocked, not knowing what to say or do when they saw the position you were in. "We were, uh-" "we were about to leave but you seem, busy." The two of them informed. You looked at them for a second longer before facing the man that was holding you again. "I should go." "Before you do." Kevin leaned in quickly again and kissed you sloppily, as if trying to embarrass you and make it awkward for your friends that were waiting. "Go ahead." He dismissed with that smirk of his once he pulled away.
You let go of him and pulled your legs off of his lap and stood up. "I have a feeling I'll see you soon?" "Definitely." He assured before you walked away from him and to your two friends.
Kevin watched you silently as you walked back into his house, laughing to himself once you were in the house. How could it have taken him this long to realize that the person he wanted had been right in his grasp for years now. Suddenly, he was glad that Stevonnie didn't show up, because if she had, he never would have came out here, and never would have talked to you.
