Chapter 9
Gabriel stared into the vast firmament, the starless skies as dusk came to a firm close. The only thing that illuminated the earth: the gibbous moon.
Slowly, he lowered his eyes to mine.
His eyes, kissed by the moonlight that reflected in those green gemstones. Breathtaking.
Thump.
My heart started to race. As I gazed at his entire being, in awe at what I had just witnessed, I felt the beatings in my chest become stronger. My body could not move. I could not breathe.
"Come."
At the roll of his dark voice, my leg took a step forward. His gaze burning a hole through my body as the distance between became less and less. In the dark of the early night, from the illumination of the moon and the glare of green from his eyes, nothing else existed.
Soon, I came to a stop, with him barely inches away from me yet between us was a tall fence. My heart raced as i felt his breath on my cheeks. I dare not let my eyes explore any further.
He gritted his teeth, "do you think I'd be stupid enough to let you roam off and escape into the woods?"
"I-I wasn't running away."
He gave me a thorough look before he leaned in closer, his head tapping against the fence. He closed his eyes and took a sharp breath before slamming his open palms against the fence, causing it to rattle violently. He growled, stuffing his fingers into the holes of the fence, pulling himself up, climbing up and over into the compound of the gated forest.
Gabriel trudged past me and with heaving breaths, ripped a layer of soil next a tree nearby, exposing an old wooden chest underneath. He flipped the lid open, and it made a soft thud as it landed on the damp soil. Inside the chest was not treasure, but instead a set of clothes: a white shirt and a pair of brown trousers.
Aggressively, he forced the run down trousers onto his hips and pulled the shirt over his head, talking long strokes of steps towards me. Grabbing the cloth just anterior to my sternum, he brought his rugged face towards mine.
Sniff.
Sniff.
He snickered.
"Just what is this disgusting smell on you?"
...
Gabriel
She smelled disgusting. It was a scent I had smelled on a lot of women before.
Pheromones.
How sick. Did she honestly think she could attract me or even attempt to arouse me with that disgusting stench? I studied her face, obviously pissed at my comment as she took a step back. Sure she backed off, but that did not lessen the sickly sweet scent emanating from her.
I could not fathom the reason I was so irritated with her scent. Surely a lot of women has had scents like this before, but none quite irritated me the way this human child Maia did. Maybe it was because she was a human child?
Human?
I frowned. It hadn't hit me until now but how could a human spawn emanate such strong pheromones? It's almost impossible. Yes, a given: there were rumors of some exceptional humans, but never had I the chance to encounter one.
