I yelled to anyone who was within hearing distance to help me. Nobody listened, apart from my brother, Jem. Even though he was the one shoved me down in the car tyre, he still ran down after me. I couldn't remember what happened after that. Did I hit my head? Did I pass out because I feared where I would stop? I asked Jem but he didn't know. I do remember that when I opened my eyes that I did a log roll to face the other side, and right before my eyes, was the Radley Lot.

Jem screamed at me. I finally had the courage to open my eyes once more, to find Jem sitting by me yelling. I asked him what the matter was. I seemed to have forgotten the house in which I had been dumped in front of after being thrown out of the tyre. I can't even explain what happened next. Jem went ballistic. He went absolutly crazy. He told me what a stupid question that was, and exited my view so that I could see what was driving him so mad. That was when I remembered and froze once more.

I woke up about 5 minutes later, according to Jem, to find myself being dragged up the road by my legs. I screamed 'ouch!' a couple times, but Jem took no notice. When we finally reached the safety of our front porch, Jem left me and dashed back to see if he could find the tyre anywhere. He came back dazed and speechless. I tried speaking to him but his face was pale and motionless. I was confused, I had never seen Jem like this, and I didn't like it. I dashed down back to the Radley House, ignoring the fact that this place was where all of my worst nightmares lay.

It was dark and dingy. There was the broken barbed wire fence hanging on a pole either end of the lot by a thread. The vegetation was overgrown and ugly. I couldn't bare to look at it any longer so I walked into a small allyway where I could just about manage to peer through the crooked shutter. Suddenly, I saw a figure block my view. I ducked quickly, wondering whether this anonymous figure, who I suspected was Boo Radley, despite the fact that Jem had told me multiple times that he was dead, had seen me. Even from my position on the ground I could hear almost silent voices. 'Move it! If you want to keep this whole thing a secret, you have to be quieter. And stay upstairs locked away in your dusty old bedroom.' I heared a low voice say. 'Shut up. That's not your decision to make. I'm tired of staying indoors. This stupid house is driving me crazy!' I heard another, slightly higher pitched, voice argue back. 'Mind your language son. You don't know what you're getting yourself into by wanting to go out.'

I stayed for a while and stared through the window, shocked by what I'd just heard. I took a walk to the back of the house to see if I could get a good look at the faces. I had never before seen Boo Radley, but if I described what I saw. maybe Atticus could tell me whether it was Boo. I mean, surley he had seen him.

Once I reached the back, I saw a bunch of tangled up thread attached to a piece of the barbed wire. It looked like Jem's pyjamas when I got a closer look. Had Jem been sneaking out at night to look into the Radley Lot?
