Happy MLK Day y'all! I hope today you kept this heroes vision of love, unity, and equality. I spent some time volunteering in his honor today. It was such a cool experience to see people of so many different cultures work together for a good cause. We all had snack time together and just talked and got know each other some. No one was on there phone or sitin alone. As we talked about our cultures and what Martin meant to us (our group leader suggested the topic) then it got to that point, (as it always does) when I get asked "Hey Zay, what are you anyways? My last name and blue eyes always throws people. They were nice about it though. But haha, no one could hide there shock when I answered with my mouth of my homemade granola bar. I said "welp, I'm interracial. I'm Mexicano, white, and black." That's when the shocked faces and "oooh" and the "really?" And "no way man" started. Then came (as it always does) "wow dude, you don't look black at all." I know I don't. I'm not just black or mostly black, but the fact is that I am. I'm proud of that just like I'm proud of being Mexican and English/white (my great grandmother is from Britain and I have family there still), and from Alabama.

What Martin means to me is he played a major roll in making my existence possible. I get to be the kid of a half white half Mexican woman and a half black and half Mexican man. I love my family and I'm proud of all my cultures and my skin tone and my hair and my eyes... you get the point. Thank you to Martin and all those that stood up for civil rights and equality. Love to all you kiddies still reading this. ♥️
