Kyle watched her sleep, wondering how she could let them hurt her like that. He didn't understand her at all. How can she still smile and act like her life isn't hell or painful. He wanted to find out how she can hold it all in and still keep on living. He knew that he would never have been able to keep himself sane and alive if that were to happen to him. He trusts that she knows what she's doing though, if she's kept herself alive for this long. She must have found some sort of safety net. He finally went to sleep in the guest room. Quickly morning came and soon they would have to face the new day of school. "Sarah, I live close to the school, are you going to be ok walking to school alone?" Kyle seemed worried as she still looked pale and he could see a bruise around her throat from yesterday. Sarah smiles lightly and hugs him gently, "Coach thank you, but I'll be ok today. I promise." Kyle smiled back and hugged her back.
Sarah and Kyle parted ways and it was still a bit chilly from last night and Sarah was still wearing his jacket. She hoped he wouldn't get in trouble for helping her and watching her all night. She thought Kyle was really sweet and considerate, but she didn't want him getting wrapped up in her problems. Maybe she should tell him they can't talk anymore? She wants to keep him safe, but she doesn't know how exactly. Sarah waited in the gym for Kyle but he never showed up for class. Sarah called his cell phone but he didn't answer that either. Sarah went through first block without playing volleyball but just walking the track and listening to her iPod. She was very worried but she didn't know what to do. It was time to head in and wash up but she couldn't get her mind off of Kyle. She decided to rush into second block to get her mind off of him, so she could think positive. Sarah decided she would finish her classes early and go home so she wouldn't have to deal with anyone today. She felt like swimming. She jogged through the school while listening to her iPod, noticing it was empty again; she started running for her life when Derik and his buddies popped up. She ran as hard as she could through the woods by the school as a short cut to her house. She made sure she doubled back and did everything possible to make sure they didn't follow her to her house.
When Sarah got home she checked all the doors and windows and made sure everything was locked up tight. She tried calling Kyle again but left a voicemail, "Kyle please call me, and I'm really scared and worried. You said you'd see me at school. Please call me!" She hung up her cell phone and decided to go and take a hot bath and try to calm down. She locked the bathroom door and turned on the water. Her thoughts were racing but she pushed them away to try and relax. She took a deep breath as she slowly sunk into the hot water. She started humming softly to keep herself at ease. She started falling asleep. Someone started banging on the front door and Sarah nearly jumped out of her skin. "Sarah let me in! It's me, Kyle!!" Sarah threw on her sweat clothes and ran down stairs. Unlocking the door, she didn't notice it but Kyle was bleeding from his nose, lip, and eyebrow. Her happiness was quickly replaced with fear. "Oh my god! Kyle what happened. Please don't tell me it was him. I'm so sorry!!" she hugged him gently and brought him inside and locked the door behind them. "Kyle talk to me please." She sat him down and went to go get a wash cloth, but Kyle grabbed her wrist. "Sarah, please don't leave." He pulled her close and just held her. "I've only known you for two days but it feels like I've known you for all of my life. I want you to be safe. I don't want him to touch you anymore. I'm putting in a request for you to finish high school at home, and for me to be your teacher." Sarah was shocked, but she was happy. "I want to go to school though. I don't want to be stuck in this house all the time. What if we go to Derik's father and show him what he's done. Will...Will that work Kyle?" Kyle thought long and hard, still not letting go of her. "Fine. We'll go in the morning. We won't go to school tomorrow." Sarah nodded before pushing away from him lightly, "Let me get something to clean you up. I don't want that getting infected ok?" He nodded as he let her go, watching her go into the kitchen.
