Chapter 2: Something About The Sunshine

Penn P.O.V

The pier keeps on getting more crowded every summer. It is unreal. Thank God it's only jam-packed the first few weeks. But it's more crowded here during the nights. Unfortunately that is every night of summer. The thing is I hate crowded places. It's like being suffocated with sweat, breath and of course since this is Miami; hot girls in bikinis. At least that's one thing I won't be complaining about. But bikini wearing girls will never change the fact that I hate crowds. It's a sacrifice I have to make every year if I want to have a proper good time and make great use of my summer. I'm not gonna lie, Sunny Ville has got one of the best piers in California. Supposedly it's exclusive too but each summer I start to doubt that fact even more. People who have families living here visit and use Sunny Ville as their vacation resort. Don't even get me started about those 'friends'.

Having just graduating high school a solid week and a half ago, this is my last time seeing the pier on daily basis. Which is exactly why I wanna make the most out this whole three months before I leave and go to collage. Right now everything just seems hypocritical to me. Hating crowds yet here I am ready to start an old summer's tradition.

"Ahh! There he is! About time you arrived." Lloyd called me out in mass of people. He's been my best friend practically since birth. We were like twins separated at birth but also have this Tom and Jerry relationship due to how long we've know eachother. Lloyd is (or was) the captain of the basketball team. He plays exceptionally well. I should know. I taught him. I even turned him into watching NBA with me. It's been our hobby ever since. Seeing as I don't play for the school's team, I labeled myself as the 'Jock's Best Friend'. Well, there's no denying it. He's the jock. I'm the best friend who doesn't play. And boy, that pissed him off. Lloyd wanted basketball to be our own thing. If he was gonna play he's want me there by his side to be teammates. He stopped talking to me for a while when I bailed on try-outs . He even started to blow off practice to the point that the team captain back then wanted to kick him off the team. Good thing I made a bargin and bought him time. It took a while but we solved it in the end. Truth is beneath that fair blond hair and havana brown eyes is just a sensitive guy who has a strong front. I am in no doubt glad and lucky to be able to call him as my best friend.

"Pretty had to walk aroun in a crowd." I sighed and immediately brightened up to do our infamous 'brother from another mother' hand shake as Lloyd liked to call it. Long and sorta lame name, I know. He' s still working on it. "Sup Tobby!" I looked to Lloyd's right to find another one of my close friends. He's not as close to me as Lloyd but that's only because he just tagged along with us in the middle of junior high. But he's still as good a friend as the next Lloyd. The three of us were always together in high school. Ever heard of the label 'The Three Musketeers'? Well to our school we were the 'Salvatore Brothers' (in reference to The Vampire Diaries). But to our parents or the school faculty we were simply known as the 'Three Goofballs'.

Honestly, I don't know why we are linked to vampired, we're not pale, we don't drink blood, we don't even have pointy fangs. So I just made the assumption we are three good looking 'goofballs' (and in no way have I ever denied it).

"I'm just glad you are here! That's one more person to listen to lloy'd verbal drooling over some new chick." Tobby chuckled. The tip of Lloyd's ear turned a light shade of pink.
