Wake up, Sadie...

The loud roar of the waterfall was the first thing Sadie could hear, yet she struggled to open her eyes. The floor she laid on was much cooler than her surroundings, causing her sleepy self to take comfort in it. In fact, now that she thought about it more, Sadie could feel an immense heat touching the rest of her body. Sadie's eyes fluttered open. The loud roar wasn't coming from a waterfall. The roar came from the flames consuming the building she laid in. Her heart began racing and her primal instincts kicked in. Her back and elbows cracked as she pushed herself up.

GET UP! She willed from herself.

Through the waves of heat, Sadie noticed another girl a few feet away. She seemed to be unconscious. Sadie rolled her onto her back. The girl coughed but never woke up. Somewhere behind Sadie, a piece of the roof collapsed.

The temperature continued to rise. Sadie's throat began to tickle, but she fought the urge to cough. She tried her best to carry the girl and dragged her towards the only door that was visible through the flames. The door swung open freely as she slammed her shoulder against. Heat rushed out of the new opening, knocking Sadie off her feet. The other girl stayed unconscious, blissfully unaware of having been dropped on frosty grass. Darkness began to sweep Sadie's vision, but at least she was out. She lifted her head in time to see a crowd of people watching her. Several of them raced to her, and then everything went dark.
