Are you okay?

This is a collaboration story with my friend, and I was really sad when I wrote this. My friend decided it should've been happier, so here ya go!

==========================

Isaac sat in his bed, crying. He was tired, so tired, and he wanted to give up. His phone buzzed and he looked over at it. It was his best friend, Augustus.

'Hey. Can I come over?' the text read, and Isaac sniffled, then started typing.

'I guess that if you're already on your way, then yeah.' He pushed the send button, and then he heard knocks on his front door. Of course he was already here.

Wiping his tears, Isaac trotted down the stairs and opened the front door. He saw his best friend with an unlit cigarette in his mouth. "Hey." he said, smiling at Isaac.

He tried to smile back but failed miserably. Augustus saw that and wrapped his arm around the blond boy, who stiffened when it went out of sight of his good eye. Getting used to one eye was going to take a while for him.

"How about some video games?" Augustus asked, and Isaac swiped his hair away from his glasses and nodded. "Well, lead the way."

So Isaac and Gus ended up playing the Price of Dawn in Isaac's bedroom. It was well past midnight when they started, and the tired boys moved backwards slowly until they were curled up under the blankets and using the back wall for support.

When they fell asleep, it was 4 in the morning. Isaac's mother went to wake her son up at 7, but she jumped to conclusions and backed out of the room, chucking. "What a son I raised."

The boys woke up at noon, both of them hungry. They went downstairs and met Isaac's mother, who smiled wide at the disheveled boys.

"I'm going to leave you two alone." and with a wink, she left the kitchen.

Augustus got 2 bowls of lucky charms out and set them on the table. Isaac glanced at them and sat down in front of one.

"Thanks for being there last night." Isaac said through a mouthful of cereal. Gus flashed a marshmallow smile back. "Anytime."

After brunch, Augustus left, leaving Isaac sitting on the stairs. After the door closed, Isaac made his way to his room, dumping himself on his bed. Reaching over the side of his oversized mattress, he grabbed a random book off of his messy floor and started reading.

A little note drifted down to his lap when he flipped to the first page. Curious, Isaac unfolded it to see a younger Augustus' handwriting.

It read, "Dear Iggy- I dunno when you will find this, but I like you. This is probably a big mistake because you have a girlfriend now, but I'm an idiot, right? -Augustus."

According to the girlfriend statement and the handwriting, this was written about a year ago. Augustus has been suffering for a long time.

He called to put that suffering to rest one way or another.

Augustus answered after two rings. "Hey dude, what's up? I haven't-"

Isaac stopped him by saying, "I love you too." There was a pause, followed by a little confused, "What" from the one-legged boy.

Isaac said, "I found your note you left me a year ago and I love you too." Augustus started stuttering, "You re-really do?"

"Yes, of course I do!" Isaac ran out of

his house and into Augustus' arms. He reached up to kiss Augustus but the stronger boy beats him to it.

The already dark sky darkens a bit more and opens up, rain pouring all over the boys.

The soaked Isaac dragged Gus into his house, where they dried off and curled up under a blanket while reading and even playing some games.

As Isaac's mother peeked into her son's room, she heard both boys whisper, "I love you."

Obviously this is an author's note, so skip it if you'd like to. But as you can see, Joey's really cliche but amazing.
