THUD

I had ceased falling at last. Opening my eyes, I tried to perceive what was in front of me; everything was sideways. Where was I? To the right was a vast expanse of blue with white streaks strewn across it, to the left, a crackly brown substance littered with pieces of angel grace that had been jostled out of me when I landed.

I moved my right arm only to be greeted with a sharp, screaming pain, and through discovering the position my arm was in, I learned why. Somehow it had twisted behind me right before I hit the ground, and I turned my neck to observe the damage. That didn't feel all too pleasant either, but I wasn't dead, so that was a plus.

I had very little recollection of what came before falling. It seemed I had been circling through the air for light years before finally touching down. Why do humans call it "touching down" I wondered. If it comes on so harshly? I tried my luck on moving the rest of my body and had little success, the pain radiating throughout. Perhaps if I just lie here a bit... I pondered hopefully. But lying became unconsciousness all too soon, and my surroundings went dark.

I wasn't sure how long I had been under, but it was dark when I next awoke. Dark...such a curious concept, darkness. This must be Earth, I thought as I propped myself up on my non-injured arm. Wincing, I turned this way and that, attempting to gather some sort of bearings, when it hit me: my arm hadn't healed. Not one iota.

It's true, I didn't realize how long I had been unconscious, however healing for an angel took merely seconds...most of the time. Why wasn't I healing? Panic slowly set in as I looked down at my bruising arm; it didn't look good. It was bleeding, as though I had blood vessels, and the bruises had begun to blacken from my wrist up to my elbow, and moving it was out of the question.

What's happening to me? I thought as I struggled to get to my feet using only my left arm. Once I was up I took a look at where I'd landed, and my worst fear was confirmed.
