Chapter 2

Moratorium is over now and it's Sunday I have my first exam tomorrow at 9 for science then I'll catch a ride home with Gunner. Only 4 more days and it'll be summer!

I spent the rest of the day studying for my science exam. I think I will do alright on it. I've always been good at science and when I'm older I think it would be cool if I could be a nurse.

That night I went to bed at 10 so I could have a good sleep for my exam tomorrow. I set my alarm for 8 because I don't need to look good or impress anyone I'll only be at school from 9-11 and the only people I'll see that I care about are Mary, Heather and of course Gunner.

**BEEP BEEP BEEP** my phone alarm went off, I slid my phone and typed My my password which is 4869 for Guny because I call Gunner that sometimes. "Mooom" I shouted to her to see if she was up "karyssaaaaaa" she shouted back to me. Good she's up that means she will be making me breakfast

I got out of bed and opened my walk in closet I slid on a pair of black tights and a Pink hoodie. I walked over to my desk and mirror I quickly pulled my hair up Into a messy bun and put on foundation and mascara. I can't leave the house without them, my skin doesn't have any acne whatsoever but a couple years ago I used to have really bad acne on my forehead and chin so I am used to wearing foundation and I feel like I need it. I got a cream prescribed to clear it all up which worked but I still like to put foundation on even tho all my friends and family say I have flawless skin, I wear mascara because it makes my eyes pop and without it I feel like I look boring.

I slipped my feet out of my slippers and into my moccasins and ran down the stairs my mom had prepared me a bagel and left it on the counter and went back to bed. I took my phone out of my pocket and saw I had a text

*good luck in science today, luv ya*

I quickly replied

To: Boyfriend❤️

* thanks! I'll need it!! Good luck in philosophy, drive me home today?*

I put my phone back in my pocket and decided I would reply when I got to school. I checked the time on the stove, 8:18, I have to catch the bus at 8:35 then I'll be at the school by 8:50 since it's only a 15 min drive. I grabbed the plain bagel and cream cheese and sat at the kitchen table eating it, I finished and put my plate in the dishwasher brushed my teeth grabbed my bag and checked the time, 8:28 I should leave now since it's a 5 min walk to the bus stop from my house.

I got to the bus and got to my exam, I think I did pretty well I studied and it was okay. My other exams went good as well since I'm a good student and pay attention in class. I am just finishing up my last exam now. I finish my last few words and look up at the clock, there's only 17 minuets left of mandatory time, I look around and see that the whole class is pretty much still working expect for my friend Karley and Gunner is also done.

"Okay, if you are finished you may now hand your exams in and leave, if you need extra time you may stay for an extra hour and a half" the supervisor for the exam says so me Karley and Gunner pass our tests in along with three other people from the class.

"Hey how was it?" I ask Karley. "It was really easy!" She says enthusiastically. "Yea I know, like the first question was so obvious." I reply "yeah, I'm gonna miss hanging out with you this summer" she tells me "I know, I wish I could bring everyone with me" I say Sadly as I watch Gunner catch up to us. "Hey love" he says kissing my cheek and wrapping his arm around my waste. "Well Karyssa I'll see you in grade 12 I guess, skype me?" She says "of course!" I say pulling her into a hug and we say our 'see you later' s.

When I get home I invite Gunner in but he can't because he has to help his mom with something. He promises to be at the airport on Friday (two days) before I leave.

"Mom? Jo?" I scream for my single mom and 19 year old sister Jorja. My moms name is Sherry and my dad left her while she was pregnant with my sister, I guess it's good that we didn't meet him so we don't have someone to constantly miss but a part of me is curious to meet him. I wonder if my mom ever misses him. Is he alive? Where does he live? Who is he? These are the questions that haunt me.

"Moms out Kar, come pack" Jorja tells me and with that I run upstairs to pack.
