5:00 a.m. My alarm goes off. I jump up out of bed already half awake. “Today’s the big day little sis! All ready to go?”

“Practice with me one more time?”

            “You aren’t even dressed yet!”

            “Scared?” I smirked.

“Never.” Alexander grinned back before knocking me to the ground with a leg sweep. I quickly got up elbowing him in the back before he quickly turned around grabbed my arm and tried to pull me down again. I used the arm he was holding to punch him in the jaw before he fell over. “Ow.” he stated. “To be fair I’m still half asleep.”

“Whatever helps you sleep at night Xander.” I mumbled.

“Heard that.” He called out as he walked out my door.

So what do I wear to this thing anyways? If it’s combat I don’t want to wear anything loose fitting. I pulled on my leggings and black shirt and grabbed my boots. Breakfast was ready and I couldn’t skip that this morning no matter how sick to my stomach I felt right now. We were having the same thing we have eaten almost every morning since Alexander was born and probably even before that: one egg, a piece of toast, and a banana.

I was the first to sit down to our seven chaired table. “Are you ready Megara?” Ma’am questioned while preparing seven eggs. “Uh, I think so.” I stuttered.

“I heard you practicing pretty late last night. One in the morning was it? You don’t need to be tired during your trial.”

            “I couldn’t help it I was nervous.”

“After your trial you won’t be nervous ever again. Trust me. And don’t say that word too loud around your father you know how he is.” She spoke in a hushed tone. We weren’t allowed to be nervous or frightened or scared in our house. We were supposed to be always prepared for everything and to never worry and to handle our situations ourselves.

Next to sit down was Eugene, the youngest. He’s always the first one to rise in the morning. “Are you ready for your test Meggy?”

“It’s not a test Eugene it’s a trial. Very different.”  Sir said very firm. He walked in with the paper and sat down at the head of the table. “Sir could you please tell me what I’m supposed to do at the trial? Please?” I begged knowing his exact answer.

“Of course not. You’ll find out for yourself just like Alma and Alexander.”

“Yeah if we had to suffer not knowing so do you.” Xander walked in still drying his wet hair with his favorite blue towel that was off limits to everyone. I groaned. Edward pulled out the chair next to me and sat down with the biggest smile on his face. “I bet you’re very excited aren’t you Meg?” Edward liked to act as the trickster of the family. “As a matter of fact I am excited thanks for asking.” I answered. His smile diminished and he was back into his usual slump.

“Very big day so eat up.” Ma’am put the eggs in front of us just how we like them, “and where is Alma? Good God that girl is always late.”

“Probably putting on her makeup, Marjorie.” Sir reasoned.

“She needs it.” Retorted Edward just before getting a stern look from Sir.
