I was lucky. I only had to stay in the E.R. most of the day, but I wasn't admitted to the hospital. The bill I got later for that little visit still hurt worse than a demon's blow to the back though. The cost for the X-Ray alone made me feel sick, but I suppose it's good to find out that yes your arm really is broken, or fractured. I picked blue for my cast color. It turned out my back was just badly bruised and all they could do for that was give me some strong pain medicine and send me home.
I was still having trouble getting around so when the potential buyer came with his wife to look at my house, I had Cordo let them in and told them to take their time looking around. Bless that lady. She liked it so much she convinced her husband to make an offer right after their first walkthrough. I got permission to temporarily move into the Pennwater Mansion with Cordo. It's the only time either of us have ever lived in a mansion, and I recovered there for a couple of weeks. I'm pretty sure my fish was the only one not excited about the move. He wasn't thrilled with the bumpy car ride that made the water in his tank slosh around.
I wasn't able to just kick back and relax though, I did have to hobble to the car and drive my gimpy self to the Poltergeist Palace two times for showings. The second couple who saw it loved it so much they made an offer the next day. I think the other couple just wanted to see what the place looked like inside because I never heard from them again.
Cordo used that time to paint like a maniac. Having him around has been a lifesaver. I don't know how I would have managed without him when I was hurt. He treated me like royalty and helped me with everything. I know how tedious painting can be so after he spent two whole days doing it without me, I hired a couple of guys to help him. By the time I was up and walking around normally again they had rolled a fresh coat across the walls of every room. Cordo and I became much more comfortable around each other. He loved giving me a hard time about breaking my arm and messing up my back just so I wouldn't have to do any painting, but when I offered to help he told me to lay back down and rest my back.
I also hired a crew to fight back the foliage of the yard and freshen up all the landscaping. It made such a difference when they were done, and it was worth the money to have them do it. They really knew what they were doing.
Then there was the business of the wiring. I know nothing about electrical stuff so I hired an electrician to go over the place. It wasn't too bad. The mansion still had old wiring in the basement so I had him upgrade that. I shopped around and got a bid for twelve hundred bucks, and even though that was a lot of money, it had to be done. It was less than the other guys were charging.
My savings would have never covered all of those expenses, so the sale of my house and the Poltergeist Palace kept me in the black. Since my house was paid off when I sold it I received the full three hundred thousand dollars. I also got a nice percentage from the sale of the Poltergeist Palace. I've never seen a happier couple than the two who got to go house hunting together and leave that place behind. With that amount added to my savings I figured I would have enough to finish renovating the Pennwater Mansion without killing myself and Cordo. Then I planned on using what was left and my share of the profits from the Pennwater Mansion sale to pay off Claire's medical bills and give Cordo some well deserved money.
I was up on the roof of the Pennwater mansion with Cordo. It was a pretty nice day and the view was clear with no fog, clouds, or demons to bother us. I pulled out my phone and started a video chat with Claire. Her beautiful face popped onto the screen.
"Hi. How are you?" I asked.
"I feel pretty good today. Thanks. How are you?"
"Never better. Ready to help us fix this roof?"
