After being pushed aside,

John headed home.

He called for Mrs Hudson,

As he hated being alone.

He dragged himself to his chair,

And curled into a ball.

Sobs broke over him,

"I had to watch him fall!"

Mrs Hudson rushed up the stairs,

And hurried to the room.

She looked down at John's figure,

"He's upset you, I presume?"

John looked up at the lady,

With tears in his eyes.

She asked him what had happened,

"He had to say goodbye."

The two talked for hours,

Crying as time went on.

John could not believe,

That his best friend was gone.

***

Two years past quite quickly,

And John couldn't believe his eyes,

When one day he got home from work,

The detective said, "surprise!"

John dropped his coat,

And paced over to the chair.

He hit the man over and over,

And pulled him up by his hair.

The doctor looked up at the man,

And slapped the side of his head.

He screamed until his throat went raw,

"I THOUGHT YOU WERE DEAD!"

Sherlock told John the story,

And John tried not to cry.

By the time Sherlock was finished,

The doctor's mouth was dry.

The detective looked at his friend,

And the corners of his mouth curled.

"Come on, say you've missed this.

The two of us against the rest of the world!"

John laughed for a moment,

And hugged his best friend.

"Just the two of us," he said,

"Until the very end."
