Chapter 1

The Beginning

The way I was conceived made my life fucked up before I was even born. I wished my life had started out being born into a picture-perfect family, but instead, it was a living nightmare. Everything that a person could possibly go through happened to me. You often ask God, why is this happening to me? Well, let me tell you why it's a reason for everything—God's plan. Life lessons only make you stronger. Everybody has a story, but here's mine.

Let's start from the beginning. Born into this world, 1987 November the 30th to a beautiful young girl by the name of Amber Lynn Dawson. My mother was a "mixed breed" sort of say. Even though I hated that term. My grandmother was white, and my grandfather was black. My mother was only 13 when she gave birth to me. My grandfather died of colon cancer before I was even born. My mom stayed in a small town with my uncle Johnny and my grandmother Josephine in the country. It was something kind of off about my uncle Johnny, so my grandmother helped take care of him. Uncle Johnny couldn't live alone because of his disorder.

My grandmother would work nights from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. She figured everyone would be sleep around the time she went to work, and she could save money on a babysitter for my mother Amber Lynn. She couldn't afford to spend unnecessary money, especially when Johnny practically took care of himself. Plus, Amber Lynn was months away from being a teen. My grandmother was the only one who could work in the household and she had to have a steady income coming in to pay the bills. Even though she hated leaving Amber Lynn at home, she had to do what she had to do. My aunt Jennifer would come in and check on Amber Lynn and Johnny three times a week to help my grandmother out though.

"Amber Lynn what do you want for dinner baby?"

"It doesn't matter mama. I'm really not that hungry."

"Are you ok honey because you are always hungry? I got to go to work a little early tonight around 8 o'clock because we are behind on work. So, you will have to fix you a sandwich or something."

"Ok, I'm fine with that. Mama is aunt Jennifer coming over tonight?" Amber Lynn face look distressed.

"No, she's not coming tonight. You know she only comes on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Amber Lynn what's wrong baby? Is something bothering you? You know you can talk to me about anything."

"Nothing is bothering me ma'am, I'm ok." Amber Lynn said without trying to make her mama worry.

"Well if you need me, you can always call me. Ok, baby girl. Your uncle Johnny will be here also if you need some assistance."

"Alright, mama."

Amber Lynn then walked to her room and closed the door. Josephine knew something was wrong with Amber Lynn, but she didn't want to push her into talking. A couple of hours had passed by. There was a knock at Amber Lynn's door.

"Baby girl, I'm off to work. I made a couple of sandwiches and put them in the fridge for you. Don't forget if you need me, call me."

Amber Lynn nodded her head ok. Josephine close the door behind her slowly, wondering if her baby was going to be alright. Josephine didn't want to leave Amber Lynn because she knew something was troubling her daughter. She had to leave though, to provide for the family, so off to work she went.

Amber Lynn looked out her bedroom window as her mother drove off. Amber Lynn then ran to her bed and flopped down on it. She laid on her belly with her face buried into her pillow, crying. She knew today wasn't going to be any different from any other night her mom and aunt Jennifer wasn't there.
