The figure in the distance was the famous Quince (Man Eater)... he took in and healed Rainsford. When rainsford was healthy and could walk again he found Kiki, Quince's sister and they fell in love. Rainsford took Kiki on his horse to get some water from the pond and food from the forest. Ther returned to the village a few hours later to se it in flames and bodies lying everywhere...lifeless bodies.... At first Rainsford thought Zaroff did this when he noticed babbons hearding children into a cage. Rainsford made a last minute call and high tailed it our of there back into the jungle when he got caught in a trap... A monkeys trap, Rainsford reached for his knife but it had fallen and was lying on the ground. Monkeys surrounded them with sharp spears and huge rocks. The monkeys captured them and threw them in their holding chamber to wait until dinner.
