Chapter 2(Written by Crazystar)
Featherkit tumbled out of the nursery, with her sister, Stormkit, following close behind. Featherkit and her sister were three moons old now, halfway to apprenticeship age. She was more aware than ever of the height difference between the two of them as she realized that the tips of her ears only went up to about her sister’s shoulder.
Stormkit blinked a few times to adjust her eyes to the daylight. “Wanna play moss-ball? I can get some moss from Leopardpelt if you want.”
Featherkit shook her head. “No, I think I’ll hang out with Shadekit.”
“You mean spend all day staring at him?” Stormkit smirked.
Featherkit’s eyes narrowed to slits. “I do not spend all day staring at him!”
“Just most of it,” Stormkit teased.
“Hey!” Featherkit protested.
Stormkit rolled her eyes. “It’s true! You spend all your time mooning over that stupid tom.”
Featherkit stomped off, but she wasn’t really angry. I suppose she’s right. I do love him…but who wouldn’t? He’s so tall, handsome, funny, and so much more. He’s everything I wish I could be. I’m just so unattractive and he’s perfect.
Shadekit was talking to his brother, Mudkit. Featherkit padded over to the siblings and nodded a brief greeting to Mudkit before settling down beside Shadekit.
Featherkit felt her heart skip a beat as Shadekit turned his bright green eyes towards her. They were so…dazzling and mesmerizing. She felt warm inside, as if his gaze could melt her heart. I could spend all day looking into those eyes…those gorgeous eyes…
“Hey.” His voice was smooth and deep.
Featherkit blinked. “H-hey.”
Mudkit radiated happiness as he stared at the gray-furred she-cat. “Oh, hi, Featherkit!”
Featherkit thought Mudkit might have a crush on her, but she didn’t share his feelings. The one her heart yearned for was Shadekit. She dreamed of his long, black fur, his eyes, and his charming personality. Shadekit was quiet, but when he said something, it was often something funny. Well, sometimes it wasn’t funny to other cats, but to Featherkit, any joke he made was always hilarious.
Featherkit gave him a brief glance. “Um, hi, Mudkit. Anyhow, you want to play hide-and-seek with me tomorrow morning, Shadekit?”
Shadekit nodded. “Okay, that’s fine.”
Mudkit looked disappointed that Featherkit had just about completely ignored him, and she felt a bit guilty.
“Hey, Mudkit, you wanna come play too?”
The brown tom’s eyes lit up. “I’d love too! Thanks for inviting me.”
Featherkit couldn’t bring herself to look him in the eye. “You’re welcome.”
