"Hey, how's it going, Gaybert?"
"What'cha planning to do today? Stalk guys with your other gay friend? Haha."
"Tsk, I hate homosexual people."
"People like you, don't belong here. So you better stay away as far as possible from us, or I'll beat your shameful ass into a pulp!"
"Eww, like, we don't like gay people, so, like, get away from us, like, right now."
Averting his gaze to the ground, Gilbert could only tighten his grip on his backpack and ignore the harsh words his school mates shoot him.
It was a daily routine for him. But even how many times this thing happen, he couldn't help but feel sad, and ashamed for himself. Ashamed for being gay.
People bullied him a lot, and whenever he would tell a teacher, they would say it was nothing serious. Yeah, right, that was totally it.
His friend, Frank, was in the same position as he is. Both of them are the bestest of friends, sharing many similarities and likes, and dislikes. One of those, is being gay, like him.
Finally, he walked in his class. As he did so, the insults and names started to reach his ears, but he tried his best to tone them out.
Placing his bag next to his desk, Gilbert sat on his chair that was at the back, near the door.
His green eyes instantly snapped towards his best friend, Frank, who was so far away from him. Frank sat on the front of the class, near the window. When they made eye contact, both flashed each other a smile and a small nod. One of their classmate saw this, and started to bully them, but they paid no attention.
The door suddenly opened, and the teacher walked in, carrying his textbooks and other things. The students quickly went back to their seats, and Gilbert stared at the front, ready to listen.
"Erm, good morning class. So, how was your weekend?" Mr. Garcia asked, not looking at the students, but was looking at the papers on his hands.
The class then started to talk about what they did on the weekend, however, Gilbert simply lowered his head, saying nothing.
"Ah, I see, I see. Well, I hope you had a wonderful weekend. So, let's see. You guys will be having a new classmate." Mr. Garcia said, putting down the papers. The class erupted into whispers about who the new student is, or how he or she'll be.
Even Gilbert was quite interested on meeting this person. His mind imagined a fine young boy, who'd befriend him, and maybe protect him from all the kids who are bullying him. He also imagined someone good looking, making a blush cross his cheeks.
"Well, I think you should come in." Mr. Garcia said, and everyone went silent.
Only the sound of shoes click clacking the floor echoed throughout the room. All eyes were fixated on the figure who was currently walking at front of the class.
A girl who had elbow length, auburn hair and gray eyes now stood next to the teacher. A charming smile plastering her lips. She was wearing a dark blue and white striped shirt, with a black jacket over. Grayish blue skirt with a brown belt, and white knee-length socks with black flats. Everyone in the room seemed to be entranced by the girl, as they were speechless when she simply gave each one of them a genuine smile.
Gilbert, however, was quite disappointed that the new student wasn't a guy. Guess better luck next time. Sighing silently, he then watched as the girl introduced herself.
"Hi! I'm Charles Sparrows, just turned twelve. Hmm, I like listening to fall out boys, eating gummy bears, chewing on gum, and basically anything color orange! I don't care if we're different, wether you're black or white, gay or straight, sane or insane, if you respect me, I'll respect you in return. I hope we'll all have a fun year today!" She finished, with yet another dashing smile.
Everyone started to smile back too, then begun asking her question.
But little Gilbert on the other hand, was busy sketching some designs for dresses and other kind of clothes. After all, he wanted to be a fashion designer when he grows up. While he was so engrossed in his work, he hadn't notice that someone took a sit, next to him.
When he felt a tap on his shoulder, he jumped and let out a yelped. Heads turned to him, making them snicker and gossip about how much of a scared-y-cat he was.
Bowing his head in embarrassment, Gilbert was about to burry his head in his arms, when he heard something from beside him.
"Psst, hey."
He turned his head to the side, to where the voice was coming from. Suddenly, he met eye contact with a pair of gray ones.
"Uh...are you psst-ing...me?"
The girl rolled her eyes, a grin tugging on her lips.
"Well, who else? Duh, of course I'm talking to you!" She whispered-yelled.
Blinking, Gilbert shuffled nervously in his seat. "O-Oh.." Was what he could only utter. After a while of silent, he heard the girl again, making him face her.
When he did, he was surprised when he saw a big toothy smile on her face. Her eyes was closed, and she looked sincerely...
Happy to be with him.
"I'm Charles Sparrows, you?"
Gulping, Gilbert took a long stare at the girl next to him. Trying to look for any mocking expression in her eyes.
But there wasn't.
"...Gilbert...Laurence...Nice to meet you, Charles."
She grinned.
"Likewise, Gilbert."
