Do I really want to go to school? I can always drop out and live in a box asking for spare change the rest of my life. That would be less of a hassle anyways.
My choice outfit for the day with a messy bun probably won't turn many heads but I'm just going to go and get through the day so I can play ball. Basketball is really the only thing that clears my mind anymore.
I was walking to school when I noticed a bunch of guys surrounding a clearly frightened girl. She was tall much like me, but she had brown hair and glasses. She wore a black skirt that came above the knees and a tight maroon top with black converse. I noticed one of the guys knock her books out of her hands and they all ran off laughing. I jogged over to her to help her gather her stuff off the ground.
With tear streaming down her face, she looked up at me and smiled. I smiled back. "Hi, I'm Rosa Dermit, you must be the new girl here."
Unfortunately so.
"Yeah, this is my first day, I can already tell which guys I'm gonna beat the shit out of first. I'm sorry they put you through all of this.."
"They do it on the daily. Those were the football jocks. I swear their brains are in their biceps. The only thing they ever learn here is plays and which girl to get with next."
"Wow. What dicks. I had some of those at my old school, you just gotta learn not to put up with them."
"Thanks for the advice. What's your name by the way? You never mentioned it."
"Sorry." I let out a small laugh. "My name's Angela. Angela Reed."
"Well Angela Reed, we better get to class. Where are you heading?"
I wish I could say home.
"Advanced Biology."
"Looks like we're heading to the same place. Come on, I'll lead the way!"
Wow, the whole way to class we got to know each other pretty well. She plays on the basketball team too. She says Coach Stimmel is a hard ass but you get used to him over time.
Just what I need. Another lunatic all over me about how I'm imperfect.
Class went by fast. I was walking to Chemistry when some jerk slammed right into me when I was telling Rosa about my old basketball team. We both were caught off guard and dropped our things. My books and papers and her....
Basketball shoes?
"Hey can you watch where you go-"
I couldn't even finish my sentence before I looked up and seen that she wasn't a she at all. My green eyes met the ocean blue eyes of someone I'd never seen before. He had to tower at least 6 feet tall with perfectly gelled brown hair. He was wearing an Adidas t-shirt which visibly showed his bulging muscles.
His deep voice pulled me from my trance.
"My name's Jack Metz, I'm sorry I ran into you back there I wasn't paying much attention."
And I'm glad he wasn't.
"I didn't mean to snoop while picking up your books, but I noticed your basketball sign up paper. You play?"
"I'm Angela Reed, and yeah I was captain at my old school. I couldn't help but notice your basketball shoes, you play too?"
I also couldn't help but notice how perfect he looked.
"Yeah I'm actually captain of the boys side here. Hate to brag, but I led the team to the playoffs last year."
His jaw line tightening with his sly grin made it obvious that he, in fact, loves to brag about it.
"Impressive. I just happened to lead my team to states three years in a row. Did I mention that we won all three years? I mean I hate to brag though." I gave him a wink seeing as I won that battle.
"Someone's feisty."
"Only when a guy tries to show me up."
"Hmm, I'm impressed. Well Angela, I have to get to Chemistry. Will I see you soon?"
"Too soon actually, that's where I'm heading."
"So we already have Chemistry together?"
"Don't get too full of yourself, Jack."
We both headed to Chemistry as if nothing ever happened. He honestly seems like one of those dumb jocks who thinks they know everything about everything. But Chem sure does go by fast when you have a dumb jock to stare at!
